Tardy Policy

Students are expected to arrive at school and attend each class on time. Punctuality is essential to academic success and helps maintain a positive, orderly learning environment. Tardiness disrupts instruction, impacts student learning, and may contribute to academic deficiencies. Notifications of tardies and absences are being sent daily to parent and guardians.

The following progressive consequences apply to unexcused tardies:

1–3 Tardies: Verbal Warning and Parent Notification

  • The student will receive a verbal warning.

  • The parent or guardian will be notified of the student's tardiness.

4–6 Tardies: Administrative Conference

  • The student will meet with an administrator to discuss the pattern of tardiness.

  • Written notification will be provided to the parent or guardian.

  • Strategies for improving punctuality may be discussed.

7 or More Tardies: Additional Disciplinary Consequences

  • The student may lose school privileges.

  • Detention may be assigned.

  • Additional disciplinary action may be taken in accordance with district policy and the student handbook.

Administrative Discretion

Beginning November 2nd, and there after students with 7 or more unexcused tardies will be assigned to lunch detention. Students will be given lunch detention for every violation after 7 unexcused tardies. Should the student fail to report to lunch detention, the student will be assigned a half day of In-School-Suspension (ISS) for non-compliance the following day. We will be monitoring late arrival tardies as well as throughout the school day.

Please encourage your student to be on time in the morning and through the school day. Should you have any questions, please contact our Dean of Students, Mr. Lovato at tal@pvh.k12.nm.us or 505-455-2234 ext. 1104.

Thank you.

πŸ“΅ Electronic Device Reminder πŸ“΅ Electronic Device Reminder

PVHS is a phone-free campus from bell to bell. Students are reminded that cell phones and personal electronic devices, including tablets, iPads, earbuds, and smartwatches, are not permitted for use during the school day.

Students are expected to use their Yondr pouch every day. Upon arriving at school, students should secure their cell phone and other personal electronic devices in their Yondr pouch and keep the pouch secured throughout the entire school day. Devices should remain secured until the end of the school day.

Having a phone turned off, placed in a backpack, or kept in a pocket does not meet the school’s phone-free expectation. Students are expected to follow the Yondr procedure and have their devices properly secured in their pouch.

Our phone-free expectation is in place to minimize distractions, protect instructional time, encourage face-to-face interaction, and help students remain focused and engaged in learning. We want our classrooms and hallways to be spaces where students are present and connected to their learning and to one another.

Students should bring their Yondr pouch to school with them each day and take care of it just as they would any other school-issued item.

We appreciate the continued support of our students and families as we work together to maintain a focused, safe, and productive learning environment at PVHS.

Thank you to our students and families for helping us get all of our forms turned in!
