Tina's tidbits-🐾 Better Together: Safety
⭐Hello EMS families,
😁WOW-Please make sure that you are taking care of yourselves by washing hands, hydrating and taking your vitamins. As per back to school tradition, sickness is being shared and in this case we don't encourage it. :)
😁Please make sure to sign up for conferences. At EMS we ask ALL students to attend conferences as we see this as a critical link in the success of students by meeting with families and students all together!
⭐STAR testing is this Tuesday and Wednesday. Please notice the change in schedule and help your student to be prepared for testing on these days. We use this assessment to help to see student progress in ELA and Math skills through the year.
🦺Safety Reminder-PLEASE use the drop off lane and pull as far forward as possible. We have seen that many are parking in the back parking lots or in the Splashzone corner area and this is a huge safety concern. We really need ALL families to work together to follow the lane and safely drop your student at the front of the school.
One school. One team. One Tiger family. Better Together. 🐯🧡🖤

🎓 Career Preparation & Exploration
Middle school students don't need to know what they want to be when they grow up! This is a time to explore, discover, and learn more about themselves.
Getting Started With SchooLinks
Students recently began using SchooLinks during Advisory. SchooLinks is our college and career readiness program that helps students connect their interests, strengths, skills, and values with future possibilities.
Students are currently completing onboarding and self-discovery activities. One activity even matches students with a well-known person who shares similar interests and strengths and shows how that person used those qualities in their life and career.
Students will also use interest and career surveys to:
Discover careers that match their interests and strengths
Explore careers they may not have considered
Learn about different education and training pathways after high school
Begin connecting today's choices with future opportunities
The goal is not to choose a career in middle school. It's to help students become curious about their future and begin discovering the many different paths available to them.
Tips for Parents
Career exploration can happen naturally at home. Notice what your child enjoys and the skills they use in hobbies, sports, school, gaming, clubs, or helping others.
Instead of asking, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" try asking:
"What did SchooLinks tell you about yourself that surprised you?"
"What career did you discover that you'd like to learn more about?"
Keeping these conversations curious and pressure-free helps students explore who they are and what possibilities might be right for them.
Parents + Students + School = A Team
Our goal isn't for middle school students to have their future figured out. It's to help them begin discovering who they are, what they're good at, and what possibilities are waiting for them.
Student Assistance Professional Maddie Sanchez shares.....
This month is Suicide Prevention Month, to help raise awareness, spread hope, and spark meaningful action around one of the most urgent mental health issues, the Student Assistance Program and Hope Squad Ambassador Team is hosting a Wall of Hope activity in the area outside the lunch room on Monday, Sept. 21st during both lunches to raise awareness.
Colors for suicide prevention month are teal and purple and we encourage staff and students to wear those colors on Monday, the activity day!
The theme for this year is "Changing the Narrative on Suicide". The goal this year is to shift away from a culture of silence, stigma, and misunderstanding toward openness, empathy, and support. The action is to encourage everyone to ask others how they are doing and listen without judgment.
Come to the event with an idea for positive action, words of encouragement, positive messages and write them on a paper provided that will be placed on the Big E, to be displayed in the commons. Spin the wheel of positivity for a chance at some cool or yummy prizes! Valuable information will also be provided regarding suicide prevention and awareness.
Our goal is to ensure that individuals, friends, and families have access to the tools, resources, and support they need to talk openly about suicide prevention, recognize warning signs, and seek help.
