Countdown to Kindergarten

August 2026-1st Edition

Countdown toKindergartenAugust 2026-1st Edition

Message from the Principal Message from the Principal

Dear Kindergarten Families,

On behalf of our entire school team, it is my absolute pleasure to welcome you and your child to our school family!

Starting kindergarten is a huge milestone. We know this time can bring a mix of emotions—plenty of excitement, a few jitters (for both kids and parents!), and maybe even a few tears. Please feel assured that our wonderful teachers and staff are fully prepared to wrap their arms around your little ones and help them settle in into their new school routines. Our goal is to make this transition as smooth, safe, and joyful as possible.

This edition of our newsletter is packed with everything you need to know to plan for your child's first few weeks of school. The slide deck presentation from the Kinder Orientation in May has been converted to a YouTube video so the resource is available for you to review.

We view your child’s education as a partnership, and we are so honored to walk this journey with you. Please don't hesitate to give our front office a call if you need support helping your child and family feel more prepared for the upcoming school year.

We are excited to meet all our new Kinders!

Sincerely,

Ms. Do

First Week Schedule for Kindergarten First Week Schedule for Kindergarten

During the 2026-27 academic year, the first day of school for students in grades 1-5 will be Tuesday, August 25th.

Our kindergarten students follow a separate schedule, allowing teachers to connect with students and families individually or in smaller groups.

Please see the detailed schedule for kindergarten at Oak Hills below:

  • Tuesday, August 25th: Oak Hills Kindergarten Connect (By appointment only. A message will come from a kinder teacher via ParentSquare.); No school for kindergarten students

  • Wednesday, August 26th: Oak Hills Kindergarten Connect (By appointment only. A message will come from a kinder teacher via ParentSquare.); No school for kindergarten students

  • Thursday, August 27th: Kindergarten students with last names A- L only

  • Friday, August 28th: Kindergarten students with last names M- Z only

  • Monday, August 31st: First day of school for all kindergarten students!

In an effort to connect with students and make more informed decisions about placement into classroom cohorts, kindergarten class rosters will not be set until Wednesday, September 2nd.

Initially, students will be placed into three temporary cohorts. Your child will have a teacher assignment communicated through ParentVue in mid-August. This will be their assigned teacher for the Kindergarten Connect Day and the first few days of school. Each cohort will work with all three kindergarten teachers over the course of these days. Through time and observation, staff will work to balance and finalize classroom placements. If your child will experience a change, a classroom teacher will be in touch with you on Wednesday, September 2nd after school with an updated teacher assignment for the 2026-2027 school year.
