Hello Lincoln Community,

Welcome to 2025! We're happy to be back at school together as we start the New Year! We hope you and your family had a wonderful winter break and enjoyed celebrating the holidays together.

This Week - Expectations Review: As our students returned on Wednesday, we did a review of our school-wide expectations. Returning from breaks are the perfect time to revisit our SWIM expectations, which include the following.

  • S Safety First
  • W We are Respectful
  • I Inspire
  • M Make Responsible Choices

We also took time to do our PBIS rotations where students were reminded of expectations during various parts of the school day. Because it's the middle of the year, at many of the stations our students were the experts and they shared the rules and expectations that everyone must follow. In this Newsletter we've included pictures of the various stations.

Early in the Week: On Monday we had a teacher work day. Then on Tuesday all staff in the district participated in a day of professional development. Our Lincoln staff were engaged in learning about various topics including the following:

  • Math Best Practices
  • Bridging - English & Spanish
  • Emerging Literacy
  • The Science of Reading
  • Learning Targets and Performance Rubrics
  • PBIS - School Culture and Expectations

Reminder - Appropriate Clothing Reminder and Flash Alert: Over these next two months of winter we anticipate cold temperatures and wintery weather. With that in mind, we are asking that students bring appropriate winter clothing. Also, because on occasion schools close due to inclement weather, please be prepared. Toward the end of this email is information on the Flash Alert system, which is how our district sends out communications to families and staff regarding weather and related news. Please follow the steps to sign up to receive text alerts as decisions are made.

Happy Friday and Happy New Year - 2025! Thank you for your partnership and for the privilege of being able to serve such an amazing and supportive community. We excited to be back together, resume our regular learning routines, and continue working on making strong academic growth.

Questions: As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!

Sincerely,

Teresa Alfaro - Principal

Message from the WSD re: Information Breach Message from the WSD re: Information Breach

From Woodburn School District Technology Department

Dear Families,

We want to make you aware of a breach involving our Student Information System (SIS). Powerschool, the company that hosts our SIS, made us aware of a breach in their system. Someone used compromised credentials, accessed their servers, and took student information. We want to be clear that this was not a targeted attack on Woodburn SIS information, and this incident impacted schools across the continent. Our local system was not compromised, and no one accessed our local servers.

PowerSchool has assured us that the information taken has been destroyed and there is no risk moving forward. Out of an abundance of caution, we have instituted local changes to ensure the compromised information is obsolete. We also instituted systemic changes for all PowerSchool users to further ensure security.

Student and staff physical and digital safety is of the utmost importance. We will continue to work closely with PowerSchool as well as deploy local measures to maintain the safety of all our stakeholders.

Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance

zoom_out_map

This year we are continuing to pay close attention to ensuring that children are present at school regularly, because Every Day Matters.

Setting High Goals: We're focusing on attendance because last year 58% of our students were regular attenders (attended more than 90% of the days) and 42% were chronically absent (attended less than 90% of the days). The 58% was an improvement from the previous year when we had 51% of our students who were regular attenders. For the current school year our school leadership has set the goal to improve from 58% up to 70%. WE CAN DO IT!

So Important: There's a very strong correlation between good attendance and student success in school. Please see the visual below for more information.
