Hello MES Sea Lion Families,

I'd like to start this week's note with a HUGE thank you to our PTA! This weekend, our annual Camp Out was held with great success! We had over 350 tickets sold, all for the intention of having a fun filled community gathering filled with memories! Extra kudos (and beyond) to our amazing chair, Amy Lingo for her leadership!

Last Friday, we heard from Malibu High School students about Malibu Moves, an amazing event which takes place on Oct. 24-25 here in town! We hope that you can come out and celebrate! More information can be found HERE!

We have been so fortunate over the past year to have a generator at all of our Malibu schools over the past year and are now ready for that generator to have a battery system so that we no longer need a person to arrive to MES to physically turn it on (YEAH!). The downside to this is that it will take some effort to set it up, and the first phase of this will close our back parking lot for an estimated 6 weeks where many of our staff members park. This means that we need spaces for our staff of over 50 people to park.

Today was the first day that the front parking lot is CLOSED for parking at drop off with the exception of handicapped spots (with placard displayed) and the 2 spots for PTA Auction Winners only. THANK YOU to the many families that planned ahead and the kids were ready to hop right out of the car at the drop off curb! Many parents were amazed at how smoothly and how much faster the lot went this morning! YEAH!!!!!

Parking IS available on parts of Fernhill and Grayfox in approved zones only. (Watch for the signs) Please make sure that for drop off at the curb that your students have what they need to get out of the car quickly with their things. We will have staff there to help, and volunteers are welcome!

We are really working on getting students to school, and getting them to their classroom line up spots on time. Sometimes it is just a difference of 5 extra minutes in the morning! PLEASE work together so that your student can be to their line (not just the gate) by the time the bell rings! Know that between 8-8:05 there are MINIMAL cars in the line! Our playgrounds open at 8 so we've got supervision for your students!

Please also continue to do the following when reporting absences!

  1. Email us at mesattendance@smmusd.org
  2. Make sure to let us know the reason for your child's absence when you communicate!
  3. Let the teacher know as well.

REQUEST from Nurse Brenda REQUEST from Nurse Brenda

We are running a bit low with our extra clothes in the health office. We could use clothes of all sizes (including shoes) to resupply our allotment here in the nurses office. This could also include undergarments and socks. Thank you in advance!
