Jane Ryan Lion's Newsletter
November 6, 2026
Happy Friday, Jane Ryan Families!
As we wrap up another wonderful week at Jane Ryan, I want to extend a sincere thank you to all of our families and staff for making last night's Parent-Teacher Conferences such a success. These conversations are an important part of the partnership between home and school, and I truly appreciate the time, thoughtfulness, and commitment that everyone brings to supporting our students. Our teachers work incredibly hard to ensure that each child is growing academically, socially, and emotionally, and having the opportunity to share that progress and collaborate with families is invaluable.
As we move further into November, it is hard to believe how quickly the school year is progressing! Each day, I continue to be impressed by the learning taking place throughout our classrooms, the relationships being built, and the enthusiasm our students bring to school. It is these everyday moments that make Jane Ryan such a special place to learn and grow.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support, involvement, and partnership. The success of our students is truly a team effort, and I am grateful for the wonderful school community we have here at Jane Ryan.
I hope everyone enjoys a relaxing and well-deserved weekend with family and friends!
Best regards,
Pat Horan

From Growth Mindset to Integrity!
What an amazing month of focusing on Growth Mindset at Jane Ryan! Throughout October, our Lions have been learning the importance of embracing challenges, persevering through difficult tasks, learning from mistakes, and remembering that with effort and practice, we can continue to grow and improve. We are so proud of the ways our students have shown an “I can’t do it…YET!” attitude!
Congratulations to Mrs. Thomas’s class, our Lion’s Cup winners! Their hard work and commitment to demonstrating a growth mindset earned them this month’s Lion’s Cup!
A big congratulations to our raffle winners: Charlie Takla, Bryleigh D’Arcangelo, and Colette Shay! These lucky Lions will be featured on the next episode of Live From the Lions Den!
As we head into November, we are excited to shift our focus to Integrity! Our Lions will be learning about the importance of telling the truth, being honest, keeping promises, making good choices, and doing the right thing—even when no one is watching. We look forward to seeing our students put integrity into action each day as they continue to build a strong, caring, and respectful school community.

Learning Common News:
This week in the library, students across all grade levels learned about Veterans Day through literature! We explored stories that honor the courage, bravery, and sacrifices of the men and women who have served our country. Our read-alouds included Tuesday Takes Me In for kindergarten and first grade, Broadcast Cal for second and third grade, Sergeant Reckless for fourth grade, and Shooting at the Stars for fifth grade. These stories helped spark meaningful conversations about service, courage, and remembering our veterans. We also designed cards to give to our Veterans next week.
Optional November Reading Challenge!
Our Knowledge November Reading Bingo challenge is underway! Students are invited to participate in this optional reading challenge and explore books in a variety of ways. Once you complete your bingo card, bring it to Mrs. Z in the library to receive a special prize!
Family Fun: Disguise a Turkey!
Looking for a little family fun? Help your child disguise a turkey so it doesn't become Thanksgiving dinner! Get creative with costumes, characters, and silly disguises. Return your finished turkey to the library by 11/20 so we can add it to our school bulletin board. We can't wait to see all the creative ideas!
Below are links to resources that you may find useful for the battle in Spring 2027. There is a Padlet with each book image, resources, and some audiobook options. The two Bookworms titles may have audio options as well, but they will be hearing them read aloud in class by their teacher. Any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Zielinski~ lzielins@trumbullps.org
