6th Grade - Surviving the Unknown

As part of our English Language Arts curriculum, we will soon begin a unit titled Surviving the Unthinkable. In this unit, students explore stories of characters and real people who face and survive disasters. Through these powerful texts, students consider how individuals find courage, resilience, and inner strength during unimaginable challenges. Our Essential Question—What does it take to be a survivor?—guides class conversations and encourages thoughtful reflection. This open‑ended question is a great one to discuss at home as well. Throughout the unit, students will also participate in book‑club discussions to deepen their understanding and share ideas with classmates.

7th Grade - Game On

In this unit, students explore stories and articles about characters and real people who design their own games. Together, we’ll think about why games matter and how they shape the way we learn, connect, and have fun. Our Essential Question—How do games impact our lives?—guides class discussions and encourages students to reflect on the role games play in their own experiences. To support this work, students will also participate in small‑group book clubs, where they’ll share ideas, discuss themes, and make connections across texts. Families are welcome to explore the Essential Question at home as well.

8th Grade - The Legacy of Anne Frank

In this unit, students will read about the life of Anne Frank and learn the stories of other survivors of the Holocaust. Together, we will explore the Essential Question: What can we learn from tragic events? Students will read a variety of texts, build background knowledge, and discuss how people show courage, resilience, and hope during difficult times. To support this work, students will also participate in small‑group book clubs, where they will talk about their reading, share ideas, and make connections. These conversations help students deepen their understanding and practice thoughtful, respectful discussion.
