From Principal Marwah
Dear LaGuardia Community,
As the saying goes, "It's not how you start — it's how you finish."
While we technically have nine weeks remaining in the school year, instructional time at the high school level winds down earlier than that due to Regents exam testing. That means the time is now — to stay the course, pick up the pace, or catch up where needed so that we can all end this year strong.
To support every student in feeling prepared for upcoming exams, we have expanded tutoring opportunities across the building. Please reach out to your teachers to find out when and where tutoring is available. Take advantage of these resources — they are here for you.
Consistent attendance remains one of the most important factors in finishing the semester successfully. We know the warmer weather and the excitement of the season can be tempting, but please resist the urge to arrive late or skip class. Absences and tardiness can seriously impact your grades and your eligibility to participate in end-of-year events.
To our seniors: this message is especially for you. Right now, we need you to check in with your teachers. If you have missing work, make a plan and get it done. If you are unsure where you stand, ask. If you need support, ask for that too — your teachers and counselors are in your corner. We want each and every one of you to walk across that stage at the United Palace on June 24th. You have come too far to slow down now. Get to work!
This is also one of the most exciting times of the school year. Performances and exhibitions fill our hallways and stages. The energy in this building is something special, and summer is just around the corner. Let that be your motivation — finish what you started, and finish it with pride.
I believe in each of you.
Sincerely,
Principal Marwah

NYCPS 26-27 Calendar Released
The 2026–27 school year calendar (available in all NYCPS languages) is now available to staff and families; the calendar link will be live at 7:00 a.m. on April 21. Note that the 2026–27 school session begins for students on September 10, ends on June 28, and includes holidays, recesses, clerical, and professional development days.
With the release of the NYCPS calendar, LaGuardia can begin the gianormous task of creating our school's exhibit, performance, testing, activity, and events calendar.
LaGuardia & NYCPS News
Message From the Parent Coordinator
Early Dismissal (UPDATE)
The frequency that some parents are requesting an Early Dismissal is excessive and directly impacts the instructional time their child receives. The volume of parents requesting Early Dismissal borders on unmanageable and is disruptive to the operation of LaGuardia. Because of this, we have adjusted our procedures and have some reminders, as well. Please know that further adjustments may be necessary.
While each process is outlined in the Attendance section of the school’s website, the process changes slightly based on when the school is notified of the Early Release request:
School Notified Prior to 8:00 AM:
Students may be released unaccompanied by an adult.
School Notified After 8:00 AM:
Parent must come to school for student to be released
Please remember:
- Update the names of people who your child can be released to in NYCSA. Doing this at the last minute can be stressful.
- Send Early Release requests up to a week in advance, preferably the day before.
- Routine appointments, when possible, should be made for when school is not in session.
- Students should never impersonate an adult by making a request and providing a copy of the parent’s government issued ID.
- Students who are not feeling well should stay home. If a student begins to not feel well once at school, they should request a pass to the Medical Office.
- Students who seemingly abuse the Early Release system will lose the privilege of leaving school without a parent present.
- Releasing a student to pick up siblings should be done as a last resort and should never be routine.

Disney Mentees, Again, Experience The Circle of LaGuardia
This past week, students in our Disney Mentoring Program (Disney, ABC, ESPN) enjoyed a full day that included lunch, a matinee performance of The Lion King, and a talkback with cast members.
Throughout the program, one thing our mentees consistently experience is that LaGuardia alum are everywhere! It’s inspiring to see the wide range of careers our grads pursue—and how proudly everyone represents their Studios. Alumni speak with genuine excitement about the impact LaGuardia has had on their lives.
For some students, this was their first time seeing The Lion King on stage, while others had seen it multiple times. Everyone agreed: the show is amazing, and the Circle of LaGuardia is real!
You (Students) are Invited to go to South Korea and Japan for Spring Break 2027
Revision Based on NYCPS Calendar Release
We’re rerouting our course after the release of the school calendar for next year and are now planning to go to South Korea and Japan for the long Spring Break in 2027, and you’re invited!
We’re excited to tell you more about the trips we’re planning with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. Please be sure to register for this info session to learn more about this opportunity.
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
In this info session, we’ll talk about:
How this opportunity will benefit students
What we’ll see and do on our trips
Everything that’s included in this experience
How your child can earn academic credit
How we’re keeping this safe and affordable
How to enroll on this trip (before it fills up!) during EF’s risk-free enrollment period
The meeting will be held on Monday, May 4 at 7pm via Zoom. There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity! Due to high demand, please only use one account per family to join us for the info session as Zoom has a capacity of 300 and in previous years we ran out of space for everyone to attend the meeting. A follow up email will also go out to all who registered with the details regarding the information presented in the meeting.
Hope to see you there!

Senior Class of 2026 News
Commencement Speaker
Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts is proud to announce that acclaimed actor and alumnus David Iacono will deliver the commencement address for the Class of 2026.
A member of the LaGuardia Class of 2020, David has built an impressive and wide-ranging body of work across film and television. He made his television debut at just 13, and has since gone on to earn leading and featured roles in some of the most prominent productions of recent years. He is known for his starring role as Cam Cameron in Amazon Prime Video's The Summer I Turned Pretty, his performance as Bo Orlov in Netflix's Grand Army, his role in the Netflix series Dead Boy Detectives, and appearances in The Flight Attendant on HBO Max, Blue Bloods, The Good Doctor, and NCIS: New Orleans. Most recently, David appeared alongside Scarlett Johansson in Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) — the latest installment in one of cinema's most iconic franchises.
A Brooklyn native who began his career as a child model before transitioning to acting, David has spoken meaningfully about the role LaGuardia played in his development — not only as a performer, but as an artist and storyteller. It is a privilege to welcome him back to celebrate the next generation of LaGuardia artists.
Senior Dues
Senior Dues and Caps & Gowns
Each Senior is responsible for contributing towards Senior Class Expenses. Senior Dues is made up of 2 general categories: 1) Cap & Gown Package, and 2) Graduation & Yearbook. (Prom is a separate expense and payment.) LaGuardia takes advantage of volume discounts; spreading expenses over the entire grade allows us to have the cost of Senior Dues the lowest price possible. This is why students may not pick & choose which expenses they want to pay -- this would increase the price for everyone.
Graduation & Yearbook: $200.00
Cap & Gown Package: $62.20
Seniors need to pay for Senior Dues and their Cap & Gown (if not paid through the Smooth website) using the Class of '26 Senior Dues Payment Form! NOTE: Caps & Gowns have been ordered for everyone, even if you did not pay for your on the Smooth website.
Class of '26 Senior Dues Payments Form (Credit Card)
Deadline: May 1, 2026
Cash/Money Order Payments Accepted: April 29 & 30, Room 261. (For people wishing to avoid the credit card processing convenience fee.). Lunch Periods ONLY.
Create Payment Schedule: Speak to Dr. Stricklin, Room 261
Financial Assistance Request for Senior Dues Deadline May 1
There are no automatic guarantees or entitlements that pay for Senior Dues; we assist as best we can only because of the generosity of our Parents Association. People who do not follow the May 1 deadline risk having our budget already distributed (meaning we spent the money.)
Parents should request assistance by completing the Senior Financial Assistance Google Form by May 1, 2026; be sure the form is completing from the parent account registered in NYCSA. For questions, please email Dr. Ballas, Parent Coordinator, at tballas@schools.nyc.gov
If you emailed Stricklin before this week or spoken to another staff member; you must complete the Google Form May 1. (A separate Google Form will be available for Prom, once tickets go on sale.)
How Financial Assistance Works for Sr. Dues & Prom
The vast amount of money available for financial assistance comes from our Parents Association, with additional support from individual parents who add on a donation when they are paying for their child's expenses.
Every year, individual staff members will pay for one or more students who they know want to go to Prom and cannot afford to. Staff have donated suits, dresses, shoes, etc. Prom is a culminating event, and we do want everyone to attend if they want to.
Senior Dues are a required expense, and so we work to handle these requests first. We aim to meet the total cost.
Prom is an optional expense, though we fully believe that every student who wishes to go is able to go. Any available money (once Senior Dues are paid for) is divide among the requests. The more requests, the less we are able to reduce the cost of a ticket.
The sale of Prom tickets and Prom Financial Assistance instructions will happen at a later date.
In the past, we have had money to offer financial assistance tickets for about $100 - $125 dollars. We notify the families, and the families can determine whether or not they can afford the ticket at this price.
Families would be notified after the regular ticket deadline, so please be patient while this process completes.
The process gets delayed by Seniors not either paying for their Senior Dues or requesting senior dues financial assistance by the deadlines.
There are situations where
Some Things to Note
Prom Financial Assistance is intended to support students who would like to attend but may not otherwise be able to afford the cost of a ticket.
Financial assistance is provided to help make prom accessible and is not intended to cover additional expenses beyond the ticket itself (such as guest tickets or other optional costs).
Our goal is to ensure that as many students as possible can participate, while distributing available funds as fairly and equitably as possible.
The value of prom is not defined by how much is spent, but by the opportunity to celebrate this final milestone of high school with friends and classmates.
Prom Payments happen in May;
Approximate cost: $225 per person

The Lions' offense broke the game wide open with a seven-run second inning, sparked by a single from August Holden-Richards, followed by a two-run double from Goodman. Defensively, the Lions were perfect, led by Daniel Lombardo making a strong play behind the plate, while also terrorizing the base paths with multiple stolen bases.
