Irving Elementary Weekly Update
Week of August 25th
Principal Message
Irving Families,
We had a wonderful first week of school! Between our Back-to-School Picnic, kindergarten welcomes, and the excitement of the first days, it was a busy but energizing start. On Friday, all of our students toured the school and either learned or reviewed our school-wide expectations to help set us up for a safe and successful year.
Next week, we welcome our youngest Irving Eagles as preschool begins on Monday.
-
Mrs. Budz-Falk’s class will arrive at 8:30 AM.
-
Mrs. Cosentino’s class will arrive at 8:35 AM.
Both classes will enter through the gym doors on 35th Street.
Our K–5 students will also be hearing a presentation from Pillars on Erin’s Law, which requires schools to provide age-appropriate lessons on personal body safety. This is an important part of helping children understand how to recognize unsafe situations and seek help when needed. CLICK HERE for a letter from our social workers with more detailed information.
Our PTO will host its first meeting on Thursday, August 28th at 6:00 PM in the teacher’s lounge. Childcare will be provided, and all families are encouraged to attend. Getting involved with PTO is a great way to support our school and help make Irving shine.
And finally, don’t forget that next week we have our Get to Know ME Spirit Week! Please see the flyer below for the daily themes.
We’re looking forward to our first full week together with students—thank you for your continued support and partnership!

Libby, Our Therapy Dog
We are happy to share that Libby, Mrs. Toolan’s professional therapy dog, will be returning to Irving this school year! Libby is a beloved member of our school community, offering calm, comfort, and support to students throughout the building.
To ensure it’s safe for her to visit your child’s classroom, District guidelines require parent/guardian permission for students to interact with animals at school. This is because some students may have allergies, asthma, or other health needs.
Libby will be on campus regularly and may visit classrooms during the year. Please complete this PERMISSION FORM if your child can participate in activities with Libby.
Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures
Irving School experiences heavy traffic during arrival and dismissal. Parking is limited, and our streets are crowded with students and adults. To ensure a safe and efficient drop-off or pick-up, please arrive early.
Please refer to the photo below for our drop-off/pick-up procedures. It is essential that families use the 35th Street bus lane or park legally and walk their students to their designated lines. Always cross the street at marked crosswalks with a crossing guard. Students must never cross in the middle of the street.
When using the bus lane for drop-off/pick-up, please follow these guidelines:
- Direction: 35th Street is one-way eastbound from Clinton Avenue to Kenilworth Avenue. Please obey all signs and markings.
- Drop-off/Pick-up: Pull into the furthest available eastbound spot on 35th Street to allow students to exit or enter the vehicle.
- Student Readiness: Students should be ready to exit or enter the car immediately upon stopping.
- Walking Students: Adults cannot park in the bus lane to walk students to their lines. Please park your vehicle if you need to accompany your child.
- School Buses: School buses load and unload at the west end of the drop-off/pick-up area.
Thank you for your cooperation in following these procedures. Your efforts help keep all our students and families safe.
