PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Our students and staff accomplish incredible things every day. At MSN, we follow a structured teaching model: Hear it. See it. Say it. Do it. This model is reinforced with research-based instructional strategies from The New Art and Science of Teaching. Our instructional "offense" includes four dedicated times throughout the day for corrective instruction. These sessions do not replace core or new instruction; rather, they complement and reinforce new learning to ensure mastery.

The image above illustrates how we:

  1. Assess what our students know.
  2. Work alongside them to close learning gaps.
  3. Measure progress and celebrate their achievements.

As we prepare for the ILEARN assessment in May, the Indiana Department of Education provides three checkpoints (Fall, Winter, and Spring) to help us assess and strengthen student learning. Each checkpoint evaluates different standards, beginning with Form A as an initial assessment. We then utilize our corrective instruction times—while continuing to teach core content—to address learning needs. Finally, students take Form B to measure their growth and the impact of their hard work.

The green numbers in the image above highlight how many students moved from not being proficient on Checkpoint 1A to proficient or above on Checkpoint 1B after engaging in both core and corrective instruction. This outstanding achievement is a testament to the dedication, perseverance, and growth mindset of our students and staff.

Go North!

Respectfully,

Dr. Davin E. Harpe, Principal
