Welcome Back, Buccaneers!
Week of August 17-21st

STAAR Accountability Rating 2026
Our campus preliminary Texas Education Agency (TEA) accountability ratings for 2026 have been received, designating Long Elementary with an overall C rating (score of 77, compared to 82 in 2025). We saw great progress in Domain 1 (Student Achievement: Absolute Performance), which increased from 78 to 81. Domain 2A (School Progress: Student Growth in Math and Reading) remained solid and stable at 78. However, we experienced slight decreases in Domain 2B (School Progress: Relative Performance) from 83 to 79 and Domain 3 (Closing Gaps) from 78 to 68. While our student achievement growth reflects the hard work of our students and educators, these results give us clear, targeted data on where we need to focus our instruction and support. Together with our dedicated staff and families, we remain fully committed to implementing continuous growth strategies and closing learning gaps to ensure every student reaches their highest potential.

Dismissal Reminders
ALL J.L. LONG MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS MUST BE PICKED UP BY 4:30 PM EACH DAY.
We appreciate your help in making dismissal smooth, safe, and timely!
STUDENT SAFETY FIRST
Ensuring a specific pickup time prevents students from being left unsupervised and helps them get home safely.
STAFF SUPPORT
Our dedicated teachers and staff need to be able to leave campus at the end of their contractual day.

Uniform Reminders
As we kick off the new school year, we want to make sure everyone is set up for success! Please take a moment to review our dress code policy to ensure your student is ready for the school day.
Important Note Regarding Sweatshirts: Crew Necks Only.
Please note that only crew neck sweatshirts are allowed on campus.
No Hoodies Allowed: Hoodies are not permitted on campus at any time. Managing and storing confiscated hoodies in the main office takes valuable time away from supporting our students and running the school.
Protecting Student Wardrobes: To respect your child’s personal belongings and prevent items from being confiscated or lost, we ask for your partnership in making sure students leave all hoodies at home.
Full Policy Enforcement Begins: Monday, August 17th
Starting Monday, August 17th, our dress code will be fully enforced. Students are expected to arrive daily wearing:
Grade-level designated polo shirts
Appropriate uniform bottoms
Approved outerwear (crew neck sweatshirts or jackets without hoods)
We greatly appreciate your cooperation and support in keeping our campus safe, focused, and distraction-free!

Parent Academic Support
Dallas ISD families now have access to a centralized Parent Academic Support page designed to help parents and caregivers better understand and support their child’s academic experience.
The page provides families with easy access to district course syllabi, which outline instructional topics, learning expectations, and associated assessments.
In addition to course information, the Parent Academic Support page includes links to several resources that families may use throughout the school year, including i-Ready Parent Support, STAAR Parent Support, AI and Screentime Guidance, After School programs, and Tutoring Services.
Heart of Teaching Grant Winner, Ms. Jesse Bartlett
J.L. Long would like to celebrate Ms. Jesse Bartlett for being a Dallas ISD Heart of Teaching grant recipient. She is one teacher out of 30 winners within the entire district to be recognized. Ms. Bartlett worked tirelessly to create a vision for our Deaf Education students in her campus sewing club bridging her passion and teaching expertise! Thank you, Mr. Kyle Clarke and Ms. Kara Petty for celebrating your team!
All Things IB
Welcome to a new school year at J.L. Long Middle School! As an IB World School, we are committed to developing students who are curious, confident, caring, and prepared to make a positive difference in their school, community, and world.
Each month, our IB Corner will give families a glimpse of IB in action at Long. We’ll highlight our Learner Profile Trait of the Month, celebrate our IB BUC of the Week, share student learning and service, and provide simple ways families can help reinforce the IB Learner Profile at home.
Our goal is for IB to be more than something students learn about—it should be something they live every day.
Think Globally. Act Locally. Make a Difference.
