Verifying What Was Submitted

Google Classroom: Verifying what was submitted
Google ClassroomVerifying What Was Submitted
What the status labels mean: Inside Google Classroom, you’ll see four common labels: Assigned: The student has not submitted the assignment Turned In: The student clicked the submit button Students may type in a Google Doc and assume it automatically submits. It does not. The student must click Turn In for the assignment to be officially submitted. Returned: The teacher reviewed the work and may have left feedback Graded: A score has been entered “Turned In” only means the button was clicked by the student. It does not guarantee that work was attached or completed correctly.

What you should do here: Look for an attached document or file. Open the file. Check that: The file is not blank. The correct assignment was submitted. There is actual work inside. Check the submission timestamp. Opening a document and typing in it does not automatically submit the assignment. Always confirm that the assignment shows “Turned In.” Students can click “Turn In” without attaching anything — so it’s important to open the file and verify.

On a weekly basis look for: Assignments marked “Turned In” with no attachment Attachments that are blank or incomplete Assignments marked Missing Assignments marked Assigned but not submitted Work that was Returned and not resubmitted. Ask open-ended questions like: “Can you open the file and show me what you submitted?” “Did your teacher return this for revisions?” “Can you show me your assignment statuses for the last week?” “What’s your plan to fix any missing or incomplete work?” Then: Set a clear plan for when it will be completed Encourage your student to communicate directly with their teacher Follow up to confirm it was submitted correctly
