LET'S GO, DREAM TEAM! ๐
Upper Band Sectionals
All Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Upper Woodwinds and Percussion, and Upper Brasswinds members are required to attend their section's weekly sectional time. Please see this fall's schedule below and plan ahead for a ride to or form your appointed day or time. Sectionals are a time when we work on individual musicianship, and instrument specific concepts. This is also when we will focus on All-Region Audition etudes. Grades will be taken during sectionals. If a student misses a sectional, they must attend another group's sectional, but will not receive the best help for another group's lesson. Please make every effort to be at each weekly sectional. If you are in a school sport, you must communicate with your coaches in advance of your band sectional requirement.
Sectionals begin the THIRD week of school.
Event Information
All Wind Ensemble members will be performing in this Pep Rally! This will be the earliest Pep Rally EVER! So, please practice the Fight Song, Go Bob Go, and Shorties.
We are coming together as a campus to welcome our new Bobcats to our school community. Over half of the campus is new to Otto and we want to emphasize school spirit and community early on this school year.
Wind Ensemble members are required to wear last year's band shirt with jeans to school on Friday, September 5th. We are doing two Pep Rallies Back-to-Back. One for 7th and 8th Graders, and one for 6th Graders. You will be called out of class. The schedule will be posted here as soon as it is available, but they will probably be during 7th and 8th periods. Students will go home normally this day.
Let's Go, Bobcats!
Sign Up for Band Buddies!
Our new school year brings great opportunities for building a strong community within our band program. If you are a current 7th or 8th grader, please consider being an older band buddy to help support our newest members. If you are new, we have awesome 7th and 8th graders that would love to meet you and help you improve on your instrument before or after school. Band Buddies have special parties throughout the school year in addition to meeting in the practice rooms. If you would like for us to match you up with a band buddy, please fill out one of these interest forms:

Event Information
Let's get this year started with a PARTY! We love to have fun events with our band! This event will be our first social of the year and is open to any Otto Band member only.
Student Drop Off for this event will be the back cafeteria doors at 5:30 PM.
Students may arrive late, but may NOT leave early. This is a safety concern. Students are NOT ALLOWED to stay after school and wait for this event. No one will be with them.
For this event, we ask that students wear white if possible, so that they glow in the blacklights! Students may bring school friendly video games, Nintendo switches, etc... and any connecting cords they need to project on our screens. We will provide candy, games, and all the GLOW you can imagine! Did I mention free snow cones??? Students must go home after school and be dropped of the back cafeteria doors for entry with their GLOW LOCK IN wristband. Students may bring snacks if desired. Students must stay in the cafeteria for the duration of the event and are expected to keep the cafeteria clean. We always leave the space nicer than we found it. Parent chaperones are needed. Please click on the Sign Up Genius to help us out if you can. We can't do events without parent help. You must be Voly Approved. It's an easy process.
Parent Pick Up is at 7:30 PM.
If students do not have a ride home on time, they are not allowed to attend. Parent Pick Up from ALL Band events is always at door 21, the band hall door, by the tennis courts. This is for their safety. No walking around to the front, or anywhere else is allowed after a band event.
Thank you for your support! Let's Go, Dream Team! ๐คฉ

Our private lesson staff is second to none! This is the BEST way to start in band! It's more than worth it!
Beginners should be working on musictheory.net - note identification exercises, Rhythm Rockers, Alphabet Master, and making sure they have all of their supplies and that they are all labeled with their name.
Welcome, New Band Parents!
Each year, the Otto band directors host an introductory parent meeting for our new band parents. We are so excited to meet with you and talk all about band! See you there!
Be A Dream Team Parent Volunteer!
As they say, it takes a village. We have been blessed to have some super amazing parent support over the years with our amazing band program. We would not be able to do all of these things for these kiddos without your support throughout the school year. Your help is greatly appreciated! Please sign up to be a volunteer. You can't ever help (even if you're able to later) unless you're on the approved list. We have events that sneak up fast! Sign up NOW. ๐ซถ (p.s. This must be done each school year, and you must list each individual school you plan to help. Thx!) ๐
Sign up to Volunteer!
All volunteers will need to create an account and complete an application, online orientation and background check through the Plano ISD volunteer management system, VOLY, to be eligible for district/school volunteer opportunities. Please visit plano.voly.org to create a volunteer account and begin this process. These items will need to be completed by volunteers each school year.
An email will be sent to the volunteer applicant communicating the status of their application and criminal history search within 3-5 business days of completing these steps. Volunteer approval status can also be viewed by the volunteer by logging into their account. Volunteers will need to complete the online orientation as well to be eligible to volunteer. Once you have been officially approved, please email Mr. Killgo (philip.killgo@pisd.edu) to let him know you are an Otto Band Approved Volunteer!
I haven't been screened for an instrument placement yet. What should I do?
The band directors will be screening any unscreened band students during band class the first week of school. As soon as they are officially placed on an instrument, we will email you and send them home with their specific supply list.
We have also added a Last Call Instrument Night to be held on Thursday, August 14th from 4:15-6:00. Please email to set up an appointment. Thanks!
I JOINED BAND, NOW WHAT?
Parents, please click the link below to see the instrument specific supply list for your child.
Each instrument has a different supply list.
Supplies can be purchased from any local music store.
We recommend Tarpley or Music and Arts.
We ask that instrument rentals are taken care of in advance to ensure delivery to school by the first day of school, or earlier. The earlier you pre-order your delivery of supplies, the better.
Tarpley and Music and Arts can deliver instrument rentals and supplies to Otto for you.
No trip to a music store is necessary. Everything can be done online.
Some band instruments are school owned and are not rental instruments.
These include: Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba.
These instruments have a one time yearly usage fee of $85.
We ask that this be taken care of in August.
Cash or check made payable to Plano ISD given to the directors during band.
All other instruments are monthly rentals from a music store. See music store flyers below.
Our goal is to begin playing by the second week of school, which means all instruments and supplies need to be at Otto by the first day of school. Thanks!
Please reach out if you have any questions at all, and we will be happy to help!
WHERE DO I PURCHASE SUPPLIES?
We have several options to choose from, but we recommend Tarpley or Music and Arts as these stores offer fantastic service and visit Otto regularly for instrument repair.
Tarpley or Music and Arts can deliver your rental instrument and/or band supplies from our list to Otto by the first day of school so your child will be all set for their band adventure!
We recommend Dallas Percussion for all percussion students' supplies (https://www.denverpercussion.com/dallas.htm) and texasmarimas.com for their rental.
