Important ACT Testing Update – Options for Impacted Students on March 11

As we shared previously, technical issues on March 11 impacted the experience of Lakeville Area Schools ACT testing. We understand how important this test is for your student’s future, and we want to ensure every impacted student has the opportunity to take the test again if they desire.

If a student chooses to take the ACT test again due to the technical issues that were encountered on March 11, ACT will provide vouchers for these students. The vouchers will cover the cost of National testing on June 14 or July 12.

Your student’s ACT testing voucher is available for pickup in the Assistant Principals office. It is your student’s responsibility to pick up this voucher and keep it in a safe space. It is your responsibility to register for the ACT test using your voucher through your myACT account. Registration deadlines are as follows:

  • June 14 test date - Registration deadline is May 9
  • July 12 test date - Registration deadline is June 6

Additional Details on ACT Vouchers:

  • A student may use a voucher code in MyACT to pay the regular registration fee for the June 14 or July 12 test date. More information can be found on the ACT Registration web page.
  • Once a student registers for a test with a voucher code, it is considered used, even if they do not test on the requested date. However, the student may move that registration to a future test date (June 14 or July 21) without having to pay the registration fee. Note: Test date change fees will apply.
  • Students cannot use a voucher code to receive a refund for a test fee that was already paid.
  • Students cannot use a voucher code to cover any additional fees, products, or services. Students must pay any fees not covered by the voucher.

Regardless of which option your student chooses, all test scores will be valid, reliable, and reportable to colleges. We are committed to supporting your student through this process. Please contact your student’s Assistant Principal if you have any questions.

Teach 4th Graders at Local Elementary Schools

Youth Teaching Youth is a cross-age teaching program open to all grades at Lakeville South High School. It's a great way to develop your leadership skills, acquire community service hours, and you can participate with friends! If you went to a Lakeville elementary school for 4th grade, you might remember this program. A group of high schoolers, wearing colorful tie-dye t-shirts, visited your 4th-grade classroom and taught lessons about alcohol, nicotine, and peer pressure. Now it's your turn to lead that program!

Staff are looking for students (grades 9-12) who are interested in visiting 4th-grade classrooms and teaching lessons around making healthy choices. The time commitment for 4th grade is 3 hours of teaching (total), during the school day, over the course of 3 weeks. You teach with other teens and can sign up with your friends. You will be excused from class with your parent/guardian signing the provided permission slip. You will be responsible for making up any work missed during that time.

These programs are easy to teach! All materials are provided and there is a training session after school, Thurs., April 24, 2:50-4:50 p.m. The room number will be communicated once you sign up for training. Classroom visits will be scheduled for May. If you want to attend the training for Youth Teaching Youth, sign-up here.
Any questions, contact Rachel at reza0027@umn.edu.

The Minnesota Star Tribune Prep Athletes of the Week

Lakeville South’s Carson Walker is pitching, hitting and hoping

Carson Walker pitched a two-hitter and piled up hits for the Cougars in the 3-0 start that he dreams will end with a state tournament appearance.

Walker was eager to make his debut on the mound for the Cougars in their season opener a week ago. It was postponed because of inclement weather.

The senior right-hander had to wait two more days to toe the rubber with temperatures in the 50s. The wait and cool weather didn’t bother him.

Walker threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout as the Cougars blanked Burnsville 8-0 in a South Suburban Conference matchup. He struck out 12 in his 97-pitch performance.

“The weather doesn’t affect me,” Walker said. “You have to be ready to play under any circumstance.”

He also went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double, and scored two runs. The following two days, while taking his position in the outfield, Walker went 3-for-4 with another double and two RBI in a 4-2 triumph over Rosemount and 2-for-3 with three RBI in a 14-4 victory over Eastview.

“Walker is tenacious in any situation,” Cougars coach Brent Goracke said. “He wants the ball or bat in his hands with the game on the line. He will do whatever it takes for the team to have success.”

Which he hopes leads the Cougars (3-0) to their third state tournament appearance come June. Walker was a member of the last state tournament team in 2023 but didn’t appear in any game for the consolation champions.
