Class Placements
This is the time of year where our staff will begin the process of student/teacher assignments for the 2023– 2024 school year. The entire staff plays a role in this process, as we work to place each of the children into the very best setting. We consider learning styles, student personalities, girl/boy ratio, class size, and student academic strengths and needs, all while striving for a heterogeneous class make-up (full range of abilities).
If you would like to share something about your child’s learning style or personality that would help us with this placement process, please submit your letter to Mrs. Rothermel no later than April 28th, 2023. We trust that you will rely on our professional judgment, as we group each of the children with the idea of creating the best learning environment possible for everyone. With that being said, requesting particular teachers will not be accepted.
Spring Needs Assessment
As we did in the fall, we will be collecting information from students in Grades 3 through 5 during the week of 4/10/2023 regarding social-emotional and other related needs. This information will be used to plan for any additional supports for students, as well as for parent collaboration on student needs.
This process should only take a few minutes, and will be minimally disruptive to your student’s school day. Students and families may view the items from the needs assessment HERE.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.
Spencer Loomis Open House
Spencer Loomis will host an Open House on Wednesday, May 3 from 6:30-7:30. In order to alleviate parking issues, we encourage the following schedule:
Wednesday, May 3
Last Names A-K: 6:30-7:00pm
Last Names L-Z: 7:00-7:30pm
The Book Fair will open at 6:00pm!
Invitation from Mr. Danz
Mark your calendars! Open House rocks in Mr. Danz’s classroom. On the evening of Open House, which takes place May 3 from 6:30-7:30 PM, be sure to stop by Mr. Danz’s classroom (Spencer Loomis room 106). There will be some fun and exciting family activities to try. We will have a family Boomwhacker challenge, where your family members can use fun instruments called Boomwhackers and work together to play songs (great for all grade levels). I will also have an iPad and projector set up with Staff Wars. Staff Wars is a fun music game that challenges you to quickly identify the notes on the treble clef staff. Students, see if you can beat your parents or even set a new high score!
Finally, we are going to have two Blooket games that students and parents can play together! If you are interested in playing, you will need a device such as a smart phone or tablet. Students can use their school iPads. Starting at 6:35, we will have a game of Crypto Hack. This game will focus on music terms and symbols. You may join this game late, so you don’t need to be right on time. At 7:00, we will start the ultimate team Blooket game. This one does not allow you to join late, so make sure you are on time and ready to play!
I hope to see everybody there!

Strep Throat Health Update
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are observing an increase in invasive Group A streptococcus (iGAS) infections among children. Our health partners have shared information that stresses the importance of early recognition, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment of this illness in children and adults.
Please see the fact sheet HERE (Spanish version HERE) for more information, and reach out to the Health Office if you have any additional questions or concerns.
STEAM Possible
Due to an unanticipated cancellation from a partner vendor, the district will not be able to offer the STEAM Possible event this Spring, but rather will reschedule it for Fall 2023. Although we are disappointed with this unexpected turn of events, there are some advantages to the new timeframe given that many families previously had conflicts with Spring sporting activities. We apologize for any inconvenience and will communicate at the beginning of the school year with the new STEAM Possible date. Thank you for your understanding!
March Buddies
During the month of March, our Classroom Buddies created a project together showcasing how "lucky" we are to be a part of Spencer Loomis. These are on display around the school! Enjoy the pictures below from Mrs. Joneikis and Mrs. Kolze's classes.
March Student of the Month
Each month District 95 asks every building to select a student who represents our District Values of collaboration, continuous improvement, equity, high expectations, integrity, perseverance, and respect. For the month of March, Spencer Loomis chose Kindergartener, Jakub R.
Jakub is a motivated and passionate student. He comes to school every day with a smile, an excitement for learning, and a dedication for going above and beyond. Jakub also sets a positive example for his peers, as he strives to achieve personal excellence daily and models a positive attitude. He works hard not only for himself, but goes out of his way to help his classmates succeed and grow. Jakub is kind to other students, respectful to staff members, and personifies District 95’s mission and values. Our class recently got a new student and he welcomed him with open arms, helped him to learn the school and classroom rules and expectations, and made sure to make him feel included throughout the day. We are honored to recognize Jakub as the March Student of the Month!
