Message from the Principal

We are excited to welcome your family to a new year of learning, growth, and opportunity. As your children enter grades 4 and 5, they are stepping into a critical stage of their education — one that builds the academic habits, independence, and foundational skills they will carry with them into middle school and beyond. These years truly serve as the bridge between elementary learning and the expectations of secondary education, and your partnership makes all the difference.

Daily attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. When students are present and engaged each day, they build confidence, strengthen essential skills, and stay connected to the routines that help them thrive. We also value strong home‑to‑school communication, and we encourage you to reach out whenever you have questions or concerns. Our weekly newsletter is a key resource for families, filled with important dates, classroom highlights, and updates to help you stay informed throughout the year.

We look forward to working together to make this school year meaningful, successful, and full of growth for every student.

Your partner in education,

Dr. Konowalow

Student Placement Student Placement

Dear Families,

As we begin the school year, I want to share the purpose behind our student placement process.

At Pine Avenue, we believe all students are capable learners and deserve a high-quality education. Our goal is to create classrooms where teachers know their students well, provide strong grade-level instruction, and respond effectively when students need additional support or greater challenge.

We thoughtfully determine student placement using multiple factors, including academic needs, student well-being, classroom balance, and the instructional resources available to support students. Smaller class sizes in some areas also allow us to strategically use our staff and resources to provide additional support where it is most needed.

Our focus is simple:

Catch Up. Keep Up. Move Up.

We want students who need additional support to accelerate toward grade-level expectations, students who are meeting expectations to continue growing, and students who are ready for greater challenges to keep moving forward.

Placement does not define a child's intelligence or potential. It helps us determine how best to support that child as a learner. Every classroom has high expectations, every classroom provides grade-level learning, and every classroom is designed to help students grow.

Thank you for your partnership and trust as we work together to ensure all learners grow.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathy Konowalow
Principal
