A Message from the Principal
Dear Cather Families,
Thank you to everyone who attended our Family Movie Night! We know there were many activities happening that evening, and we appreciate you taking the time to join us for a fun night together. Thank you to student council and sponsoring teachers for taking time away from family time at home to help with this event! Thank you Student Council!
Please check your child's backpack for the Fall Party letter. It includes information about costumes, the schedule, and party times. The letter is being sent home with your youngest or only child.
Next week is Red Ribbon Week! ❤️ Students will have opportunities to participate in themed dress-up days while learning about healthy choices and the importance of staying drug-free. Please check the schedule for each day's theme and join us in supporting a healthy lifestyle!
Construction on our new entrance is nearing completion, and we are excited for you to see it. Watch your email for an opening date—we hope to have that information soon! We will also schedule an open house after winter break so families can see the improvements.
As we move further into fall, please remember to watch the weather and help your child dress appropriately for colder days. We will continue to go outside for recess unless temperatures reach zero degrees or below. Please make sure your child has a warm coat, hat, and gloves as the temperatures drop.
Thank you for your continued support of Willa Cather Elementary. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy this beautiful fall weather!
Warmly,
Mrs. Kreager
Willa Cather Elementary Principal
Notice
Dear Families,
We are currently pausing the use of window car tags during dismissal. Thanks to our new building addition and a large roof, students will have dedicated protection from the weather to wait for families to pick up, making the tags unnecessary for our current process.
Please hold onto your existing car tags for now just in case our procedures change. We will re-evaluate the system ahead of the 2027–2028 school year and share any updates then. Thank you for your continued cooperation during pickup!
Thank you

Costume and Parade Information - Please Read
Dear Parents,
Our Fall Party Parade is scheduled for Friday, October 30th at 2:00 p.m. Students
will parade through the main hallway and outside the back door by the office picking up
classes as we go. Parents, if you are watching the parade, please make a large circle
around the edge of the blacktop. We will set two cones at the entrance, please leave
this open, students will parade around the circle to the right and re-enter the building
through the gym doors. Just a few reminders as you prepare for this day:
Schedule:
1:45 Party set up and costume change
2:00 Costume Parade
2:15-3:15 Fall Parties in Classrooms
If your child is not participating, there will be activities in the library for them.
●We ask students to bring costumes to school in a disposable bag, clearly marked with
their name. Costumes should not be worn to school. Students will put on costumes just
prior to the party/parade 1:45p.m. Students who come to school in costume will be
asked to change.
●Children should not wear make-up or hair products to school. Students can put on
make-up and fix hair prior to the parade. Make-up should be appropriate and not too
scary. Hair products should be minimal.
●To prevent frightening younger children, please refrain from costumes, masks, or
make-up depicting blood and other gruesome characters.
●Play weapons such as guns, swords, bullets, and hatchets are NOT allowed. Leave them
at home.
●Keep costumes simple and age appropriate. Costume suggestions: characters from
children’s literature, athletes, community figures (firefighters, nurses, bakers, etc.)
●If you plan to view the parade please wait outside on the blacktop. Please allow plenty
of time for parking. Do not block North Middle School entrance, buses need room to
enter and exit. Parents attending the parties are welcome to dress up in costumes that
are young child appropriate and not scary. Please leave your face uncovered so we can
identify you.
**If it is raining the parade will be in the gym. Parents will make a big circle and students will
parade to the right to the inside of the circle.
Thank you in advance for your support and have a great time!

Media Minute
A Message from Mrs. Collins - Library and Media Center
This week, K-4 discussed digital citizenship during both library AND technology classes.
In kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades, we talked about finding some balance with our healthy habits and having device free moments. Using technology can be useful if we balance it with other activities like reading, playing outside, and spending time with family. The books we read included Goodnight, iPad, If You Give a Mouse an iPhone, Dot, When Charlie McButton Lost Power, and Our Table. 3rd and 4th graders read the book The Nantucket Sea Monster and Killer Underwear Invasion to learn about how the media can influence what we think and how to spot disinformation.
5th graders began a project using iMovie or Canva to create a book trailer about a book they have finished reading recently. We are excited to see what their creativity will produce!
