FIRST PHASE OF THE EHS AUTO BUILDING IS FINISHED FIRST PHASE OF THE EHS AUTO BUILDING IS FINISHED

group photo of school officials in front of auto shop building

Phase 1 complete!

Thank you to Prism Builds, LLC for completing the first phase of construction with the EHS Auto Building. Scott Stillman, Owner of Prism Builds and Justin Garlington, Co-owner and Project Manager joined ESD Superintendent Dan Snowberger, EHS Principal Bret McClendon and EHS Auto Shop Instructor Derek Spohn visited the site this week to celebrate the completion of the initial construction phase.

The shell of the building is finished and in recent days, concrete flooring was added. There is also plenty of excitement building as the school district looks ahead to the next phases of construction.

Despite federal funding falling short on the project, the ongoing fundraising effort continues to be successful. In fact, the school district just collected another generous $50,000 donation which brings the total to roughly $200K in pledges. The overall fundraising goal is $300K, so we are two-thirds of the way there to having enough funding to completing the project.

If you would like to donate to the project through MySchoolBucks, click the link below.

We appreciate Prism Builds, LLC for all of the solid work that has been done to bring us to this point!

The next fundraising event for the EHS Auto Building is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29th from 6-8 p.m. at the Elizabeth High School Cafetorium.

We invite anyone from the Elizabeth community to join us for Cake, Cars & Careers. This will be a fun event where you can have some cake in the cafetorium, listen to guest speakers talk about the automotive program and check out collector cars in the parking lot outside of the high school.

Guest speakers will include current EHS students talking about the importance of the automotive program and EHS alumni who have gone on to have successful careers in the auto industry.

There will also be a paddle raise event, where you can bid on custom name engraved floor and wall tiles to be added to the new building once it is completed. Current donors will also be recognized at the event for their generous contributions.

No RSVP required. We look forward to seeing you there! Our goal is to cross the fundraising finish line in securing the remaining $100K needed to complete the project.

ELIZABETH SCHOOL DISTRICT BIDS FAREWELL TO JEREMY CASEY ELIZABETH SCHOOL DISTRICT BIDS FAREWELL TO JEREMY CASEY

The Safety & Security Team at Elizabeth School District

Protection and experience!

Check out this interview with the leadership of the Elizabeth School District Safety and Security team. ESD Safety and Security Director Jeremy Casey and Safety and Security Operations Coordinator Tyler Rabideau talk about the depth of experience with their team, which combines over a century of law enforcement and military experience.

For the first time, the school district now has an armed presence at each campus. Casey and Rabideau worked together on getting their team trained and ready for the school year. Both Casey and Rabideau have an impressive amount of experience themselves. Casey spent more than two decades working for the U.S. Secret Service and provided protection to various U.S. Presidents.

Rabideau is a former officer for the Elizabeth Police Department and spent years serving in the U.S. Army.

At this week’s school board meeting, it was announced that Casey will be leaving the school district for another opportunity with a private security contracting firm. Rabideau was announced as Casey’s replacement pending formal board approval. Casey received a certificate of recognition from the school board and ESD Superintendent Dan Snowberger.

Congratulations to both Casey and Rabideau for both of their new opportunities and a special thank you from our community for getting the Safety and Security team to where it is today!

ELIZABETH MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARNING ALL ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION ELIZABETH MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARNING ALL ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION

The power of your voice!

Students at Elizabeth Middle School were treated to a presentation in the auditorium from Jill Cullis, Colorado Coordinator for Constituting America. The presentation is all about "Relevancy of the Constitution".

Cullis teaches students about the three branches of government how the First Amendment empowers them to have a voice to bring about change in their community. Elizabeth Middle School Principal Kimberly Runyan says 6th, 7th and 8th graders learned all about amendments, the process of putting together amendments, the importance of student voice and how to get something on the docket.

The students also learned about who our local elected leaders are and how they can get in touch with them. Thank you Jill Cullis for the wonderful presentation!

A big turnout at the Elizabeth Middle School band concert.

Elizabeth Middle School Principal Kimberly Runyan says it was an excellent turnout and performance by the students, led by EMS band teacher David Goldscheid.

Runyan says the students played three songs and that it was the best school band concert that she has been to, noting that the performances were exceptionally smooth and saw a lot of talent on stage.

Audiences also watched Beginning orchestra, Intermediate orchestra and Advanced orchestra.

Runyan says it was very exciting to see that kids are expanding their performing arts. She says they played some really challenging music and did it so well.

Congratulations to our EMS band students for a fantastic performance!

YOU NEVER KNOW WHO WILL SHOW UP YOU NEVER KNOW WHO WILL SHOW UP

elizabeth police officer learning how to weld

It's never too late to learn something new!

EHS Auto Shop Instructor Derek Spohn shared this photo from a recent SkillsUsa meeting. He says during the meeting, an Elizabeth Police Department officer rolled up to see what everybody was up to, found out that there was welding instruction taking place and decided to jump in and give it a try for himself!

Spohn says a club member taught the officer to weld and that he did a great job with it! This picture really illustrates the type of community we live in, where our first responders maintain a strong connection with our students and school district.

Hats off to the officer for learning something new and giving the auto shop students a nice surprise!

VAPE PREVENTION EDUCATION COORDINATOR BEGINS WORK AT ELIZABETH SCHOOL DISTRICT VAPE PREVENTION EDUCATION COORDINATOR BEGINS WORK AT ELIZABETH SCHOOL DISTRICT

A picture of the vape coordinator and PIO sitting in chairs

Elizabeth School District is excited to announce the hiring of Maegan Winegar, ESD Vape Prevention Education Coordinator. Maegan is a graduate of Elizabeth High School and her position is grant funded and something that is new to the State of Colorado.

Elizabeth School District is one of 30 school districts that received funding for programming and education involving vaping and youth. The position is designated for K-12 and Maegan will be helping educate our community about vaping, the concerns the school district has with it and how parents can help prevent addictions from forming.

There will also be options for high school students who might be addicted to vaping to get the help they need. Maegan says the school district's goal and a big part of her mission is to prevent students from even starting with vape experimentation.

On a national scale, one in four middle and high school students have at least tried vaping and recent research has shown it to be addictive and has health risks associated with it.

Look for a one-on-one interview with Maegan to be released next week where you can learn more about her position, goals and communications she will be sending out to ESD parents.

We love our principals at Elizabeth School District! Throughout the month of October, look for one-on-one interviews with our principals, talking about their career track, their daily routine and why they chose the profession.

Our first feature is with Singing Hills Elementary Principal Amber Sorg! Look for that interview to be released next week on ESD social media and in the Good News Bulletin.
