SUSD Community Newsletter
Some thoughts for the starting school year

Superintendents' Message
Dear Shoreline Community,
To begin, I want to once again reiterate how important all members of our Shoreline community are to the vibrance and sustainability of our district. Our school staff has been working hard over the past month to prepare to support our students and families in the event that Immigration Enforcement officials show up on our campuses looking for people and/or information. Our Board of Trustees has updated its policies and passed a resolution affirming our practices that support the privacy of all of our families and the safety of our school sites. Staff at our school sites have been trained on the legal requirements for protecting student privacy, and how to respond if that privacy is questioned or infringed upon. District leadership participates in regular, ongoing, countywide meetings to remain informed about updates to policies and local practices, in an effort to quickly take action, as needed, in response. We recognize the importance of remaining prepared to support our families however we can, and will remain vigilant in doing so, no matter how great the concern becomes.
This February we will return to the annual tradition of hosting a daytime Board of Trustees meeting at Tomales High School to showcase the many exciting programs our high school has to offer. In addition, we will have our Mid-Winter Break during the third week of the month. Below you will find more detailed information related to the many things that Shoreline has to offer in February, as long as we can get the weather to be a little more cooperative.
In community,
Adam Jennings
Superintendent
Shoreline Unified School District

Bridge the Gap Tutoring and Student Support Program at At Tomales High School
The Bridge the Gap program at Tomales High School continues to provide essential academic support and enrichment opportunities for students. The team has been working closely with school administration and staff to ensure that services effectively meet the needs of the THS student population.
The program offers push-in tutoring, where English and Science tutors provide one-on-one and group support within classrooms during independent work time. Additionally, in-class intervention allows students to receive targeted academic support through pull-out sessions for individualized assistance. After school, students can attend tutoring sessions in the library, where tutors are available to help with English, Math, History, and Language coursework.
A key component of Bridge the Gap is its college exploration opportunities. During Late Winter Break, a group 11 of Juniors will participate in an overnight college road trip spanning three days and two nights. This year, students will visit UC Davis, University of the Pacific, CSU San Jose, CSU Monterey, and UC Santa Cruz, gaining valuable insight into college life and opportunities beyond high school.
We are grateful for our partnership with Bridge the Gap and appreciate their dedication to supporting our students' success.

Student Participatory Budgeting Project
The student participatory budgeting project is currently underway at all of our district schools. Tomales High School and Tomales Elementary are participating as part of a class, while West Marin Elementary and Bodega Bay are involved through their Student Councils.
Participatory budgeting allows students to decide how funds will be spent to improve their school. This project gives students a chance to lead the planning and promotion of their ideas, which will be voted on by their peers. Teachers and student council advisors are guiding them through the process.
Funds have been allocated from the Community Schools Budget at the elementary schools, and Tomales High has received a grant from West Marin Fund to support the project. Voting will take place in mid-March. This project empowers students to shape their school environment and make decisions that reflect their needs.
