Gardening Club

6A planted Corinto cucumbers at the greenhouse today.

Students learned that the skin of the cucumber has the most nutrients. Cucumbers are rich in vitamins C and K.

The phrase "cool as a cucumber" comes from the fact that the internal temp of a cucumber is always cooler than the outside temp.

Third Grade Author-Illustrator Event

The third graders participated in a Virtual Author-Illustrator Event to hear author Jerry Pallotta speak about his books and share his journey as an author, including his most popular Who Would Win? Series! They have been learning about animal traits in science and animal character traits in ELA so this was a great opportunity for them to expand their knowledge on the topic. The Who Would Win? Series has now become one of their favorite sets of books to read. Great job reading third grade!

4th Grade Student Wellness Field Trip

WOW! What an amazing day with Pointe Coupee Parish School’s very own Food & Nutrition Student Wellness crew! 4th graders visited the greenhouse behind STEM where they participated in hands-on sowing of lettuce species with Mrs. Kate. They also tasted a variety of plants and dips made from plants grown right in our back yard with their very own chef, Mrs. Christy! Mrs. Rebecca gave a lesson that tied today’s experience with their agricultural lesson in Social Studies and future Science lesson! We are most grateful to an outstanding educational experience!! Please promote and personally thank our Student Wellness Program ladies, for it is an AMAZING life skills opportunity for our children!!

Forensic Science Class Gets Insight Into Crime Scene Investigations

In this forensics class, students hear from the Pointe Coupee Sheriff's Office about their investigative process at a crime scene. As they recount their approach, the officers emphasize the importance of first impressions—how they assess the scene for evidence, the layout, and any potential witnesses. They break down the steps: securing the area, documenting everything through photos and sketches, and meticulously collecting evidence. Students learn how each piece, from fingerprints to blood spatter patterns, plays a crucial role in unraveling the mystery and identifying the suspect. The session highlights the blend of science and detective work in solving crimes.

4th Grade 4-H Hosts Community Project

4th grade 4-H raised $185 for the Pointe Coupee Shelter at the 4-H Pet Show as a community project! The idea was presented at the last 4-H meeting by Community Project Leader, Arisa Loup. She, Ellie Dabadie, Anthony Hebert, and Avery Carrier accepted donations for the duration of the pet show. Our Photographer, Maddison Powell, showed up for support and photo ops. We could not be prouder of our STEM 4th grade 4-H officers and members for taking their roles and responsibilities so seriously. You are already TERRIFIC LEADERS!! Way to represent our club and school in the community!!
