Snack and Drink Reminder Snack and Drink Reminder

Just a friendly reminder that water is the only drink students may have in the classroom. Please also help us by making sure students are not bringing candy as a snack. We want to keep snacks simple and nutritious so students can stay focused, energized, and ready to learn throughout the school day.

Thank you so much for helping us support healthy habits and a positive learning environment! 💙

Homework Homework

Monthly Reading logs are attached in your students Take Home Folder. Each night that they read they should record the amount of minutes and get a parent/guardian to initial.

For Math there will be problems that are circled that students must do, they are welcome to do more if they would like or if you want them to. But those are the only required problems for the night.

Each night your student should bring home their yellow folder. Please make sure they are emptying the side that says Keep at Home.

Academics Academics

Literacy Literacy

We have been busy establishing our classroom expectations and routines while building a strong foundation for reading! We have enjoyed several engaging read-alouds, including The Big Cheese, The Sour Grape, Arnie the Doughnut, and a story about hurricanes. Students have been responding to stories in their reading notebooks and participating in meaningful conversations with their partners.

We also finished our i-Ready Reading Diagnostics this week! Next week, we will begin our first Benchmark Advance unit, Plants and Animals in Their Habitats. We are excited to dive into this new unit and continue growing as readers!

Writing Writing

We have been practicing responding to different writing prompts and sharing our ideas through writing. Students have written about topics such as their favorite dinner and their experiences during storms. We are working on adding details to our writing and explaining our thinking so that our readers can better understand our ideas.

We have also been working on improving our handwriting and typing skills. Students are building confidence and fluency as they practice writing neatly and using technology to communicate their ideas.

Math Math

This week, we finished our i-Ready Math Diagnostic and completed Lesson 1, which focused on mental math strategies for addition. Students learned two strategies to help them add more efficiently: Make a Ten and Count On. We have been practicing these strategies and building our confidence with using different ways to solve addition problems.

Next week, we will begin learning about mental math strategies for subtraction. Students will take the strategies and number sense they developed this week and apply that thinking to help them solve subtraction problems more efficiently.
