Principal's Message - Building Excellence Together

MMK Families,

Can you believe we are already three weeks away from Spring Break and the end of Quarter 3? This time of year moves fast, and there is so much to celebrate as we head into the home stretch.

One of the most important things you can do right now is sign up for Student-Led Conferences scheduled for April 1–3. This is your child's moment to sit in the driver's seat, walk you through their learning, and share the growth they've worked so hard to achieve. These conversations are meaningful, powerful, and ones that families consistently tell us become highlights of the school year. Please log into Skyward Family Access today and grab your time slot β€” don't wait!

This week we also pause to honor our incredible Education Support Professionals β€” the heartbeat of our school β€” and celebrate GRIT Award winners who inspire us every single day. And a huge congratulations to Cloey Fletcher on her Senior All-State basketball selection. Cloey, you represent MMK with incredible class and pride. πŸ¦‰

We are proud of every one of our Owls. Let's finish Quarter 3 strong β€” together!

Go Owls!

Student-Led Conferences Are Almost Here!

Dear MMK Families,

One of our favorite times of the school year is just around the corner β€” Student-Led Conferences! This is a special opportunity for your child to sit down with you and take ownership of sharing their learning journey. We are so proud of the work our students have been doing, and we can't wait for you to see it through their eyes.

Conference Dates & Times

Please mark your calendars for the following conference windows:

  • Wednesday, April 1 β€” 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM (Please note: There will be no late start this Wednesday due to conferences)
  • Thursday, April 2 β€” 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
  • Friday, April 3 β€” Early Release Day (no individual conferences scheduled)

How to Sign Up

Scheduling your conference is quick and easy! Simply log in to Skyward Family Access and use the Conference Scheduler to select a time that works best for your family.

Secondary families β€” because these are student-led conferences, you are welcome to sign up with any teacher on your child's schedule. Your student will be leading the conversation!

If you need assistance accessing Skyward Family Access or have trouble scheduling, please don't hesitate to call the school office and we will be happy to help.

What to Expect at a Student-Led Conference

Student-led conferences are a little different from traditional parent-teacher conferences β€” and in the best possible way! Your child is in the driver's seat. During the conference, your student will guide you through a meaningful conversation that may include:

  • A review of their academic progress across classes
  • Test scores and what they mean for their learning
  • Personal highlights and reflections on their growth this year
  • Work samples that showcase what they've been learning and creating

This format builds confidence, self-advocacy, and communication skills that go far beyond the classroom. Many families tell us it becomes one of the most meaningful conversations they have with their child all year.

This week we celebrated Education Support Professionals Week! πŸŽ‰

Education Support Professionals are the backbone of our schools. From paraeducators, secretaries, custodians, bus drivers, food service staff, and so many others β€” these dedicated individuals keep our schools running and support students every single day.

First recognized in 1975 by Public School Employees of Washington (PSE), this week is about honoring the vital contributions ESPs make in our schools and communities.

Thank you to all of the incredible support professionals who show up for students, staff, and families every day. Your work truly makes a difference!

🌟 MMK GRIT Students of the Week 🌟

⭐ This Week's GRIT Winners β€” We Are So Proud of You!

Each week, our teachers nominate students who are living out GRIT in real, meaningful ways. This week's winners are an incredible group, and we are so proud to celebrate each one of them!

Ian Weaver β€” Ian demonstrated true GRIT during reading time this week in a way that really stood out. Even when he didn't feel like completing his reading page, he made the choice to keep going β€” no reminders needed. He stayed focused, pushed through the challenge, and finished his work on his own. That kind of determination and ownership of learning is exactly what GRIT looks like. Way to go, Ian!

Bryson McCartney β€” Bryson showed a level of kindness and maturity this week that made his whole classroom a better place. When his teacher needed a little space, Bryson responded with empathy, respect, and understanding β€” no fuss, no frustration. He gave her room, made better choices, and helped create a calmer, more positive environment for everyone. That is not easy to do, and it says so much about who Bryson is. We are really proud of you!

Elli Miller β€” Elli is the kind of student who does the right thing even when no one is watching β€” and that is one of the most important qualities a person can have. She makes positive choices all day long, stays focused on her learning, treats others with kindness, and approaches everything she does with care and effort. Elli, you are a true role model for your classmates and an absolute joy to have in class. Keep shining! 🌟

Freya Weaver β€” Freya, you show GRIT every single day β€” and this week was no exception. When things get hard, you might feel frustrated at first, but here is what makes you special: after a little conversation and a breath, you bring back that smile, reset your attitude, and agree to try again. That is TRUE GRIT, Freya. Not giving up even when it's tough. Not quitting even when it's hard. You are strong, focused, and determined, and we are so very proud of you. Keep going β€” you can do whatever your mind is set on! πŸ’›

Grayson McCracken β€” Grayson, your GRIT shows up in the incredible quality of your work. You focus on the details, you think deeply, and when it comes to answering questions in reading, Mr. Jewett noticed that your thoughtfulness and depth of understanding are truly remarkable. That kind of careful, committed effort is something to be proud of. Keep up the fabulous work, Grayson β€” we are so proud of you!

Kimber Rivard β€” Kimber, where do we even begin? Your work ethic shines through in everything you do β€” whether you are working independently, with a partner, or as part of a group. You encourage your classmates to be their best, you bring joy and positivity to the classroom every single day, and you never, ever give up. That makes you a true GRIT leader. We are so proud of you, Kimber! Way to go! 🧑

Jadynn Smith β€” Jadynn shows GRIT in a way that takes real strength of character β€” by choosing kindness toward everyone and refusing to let negative comments shake her. That kind of resilience and grace is not always easy, but Jadynn makes it look natural. Way to go, Jadynn β€” keep being exactly who you are! πŸ¦‰
