ALICE Training
The high school will provide ALICE training to all students on Wednesday, September 23, during MMA. Administration and Officer Shaffer will conduct this training from the TV studio and broadcast it to the whole school in their individual MMA classes. The training (linked below) is meant to empower students and help plant the seeds of what to do in an active shooter scenario. Unfortunately, this is a life skill everyone needs, as these situations can happen anywhere, not just at school.
During the training, students will have the opportunity to discuss what is being taught and ask questions. Each classroom teacher will have a live chat open with Administration and Officer Shaffer so students can ask questions or seek clarification. Students will not leave the building, hide, or counter as part of the training. The only active/physical part of the training will be a 30-second activity that will require pre-selected students to demonstrate how fast they could barricade or block a door in the case of an emergency.
Please take an opportunity to preview the material that will be used in the training with the students. Then each family can follow up with their student after the training on September 16.
ASVAB Testing
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is offered to interested 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-grade students at Dover Area High School on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 8-11:15 AM. The ASVAB is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides career information for various civilian and military occupations and indicates your potential for success in future endeavors, whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career. The ASVAB is required for those who want to join the military and is also a valuable assessment for those who don’t want to join the military but want to discover which career area they may be best suited for.
Scoring 31 or better on the ASVAB demonstrates student career readiness and satisfies state requirements, under Act 158, for students who have not met the Keystone testing requirements. Students who have not scored proficient or advanced on all 3 of the Keystone tests OR whose three combined scores (must also have at least one proficient or advanced score and no below basic scores) do not add up to 4452 should consider taking the ASVAB to meet the state's Act 158 requirements.
STUDENTS MUST REGISTER BY SEPTEMBER 30, 2026 USING THEIR DOVER STUDENT EMAIL ACCOUNT. USING AN OUTSIDE EMAIL ACCOUNT WILL NOT ALLOW REGISTRATION.

Junior Achievement REAL Life
We need your help! On Tuesday, October 6, 2025, Junior Achievement of South Central PA will be at Dover Area High School with their REAL Life Program. All students in 11th grade will be participating in the day-long program. It consists of a series of activities all intended to help students gain an appreciation for the importance of owning their own economic success.
Half of the day is spent in our Budget Builder activity. The other half has students gaining an understanding about going out into the real world after high school. The REAL Life day is intended to help students gain an appreciation of the importance that financial decisions will play in their lives as young adults. The program will inspire students to appreciate the key issues surrounding personal finance and the importance of getting good advice as they make decisions.
For this day to be a success, we will need volunteers to facilitate ONE of the REAL Life activities for the day as students rotate through your station. If we do not have these volunteer spots filled, we are in danger of not being able to run this meaningful event. Please also share this opportunity with friends, neighbors and colleagues who may be interested in helping the students of our school. I have attached a flyer with all of the information for the day and a direct link for you to sign-up.
You do not have to be an approved school volunteer to help with this day. Junior Achievement will provide online training as well as on-site support to all volunteers.
Please consider volunteering and join us as we spend the day empowering and inspiring our students. This opportunity is only possible with the support of wonderful volunteers like you.
To sign up to volunteer, please contact Shannon Baker with JA’s Volunteer Engagement Team at sbaker@jascpa.org or stem@jascpa.org.

Career & Technical Education (CTE) Corner
YCAL Career Exploration events offer students the chance to spend a day learning about a variety of different careers! Their website has information about all the events, and applications open on September 4th! These do fill quickly, so please discuss these opportunities with your student and remind them to complete the application. Students and their families are responsible for transportation to the event, which is an excused absence.
The high school is also hosting JA REAL Life on October 6th. Volunteers are needed to help students learn more about budgeting, interviewing, and resumes. Please consider helping us out! Students always learn lots about what it really takes to make ends meet, and many end the day with renewed focus on planning for life after graduation. This only happens with help from our community.
One additional opportunity available to our students is ACE (Architecture, Construction, & Engineering), which is a community group sponsored by a variety of local companies across South Central Pennsylvania. Students get the chance to practice real engineering skills on a local project, with the guidance and mentorship of practicing engineers. If this might be a match for your student, please encourage them to check it out!
Finally, please encourage your student to get involved with one of our CTE student organizations (CTSOs). DECA, FFA, and SkillsUSA all offer leadership opportunities, skill competitions, and camaraderie for students. Every Dover student is welcome in these organizations, and we hope they’ll take advantage of the many career education opportunities they offer! This is also a Submarine Team year, so interested students should talk with Mr. Smith, Mr. Bowen, or Mr. Goode for more information about joining the team. To learn more about our CTSOs and CTE programs, follow us on Instagram @dover-cte. If you don’t use Instagram, the stream also posts to our web page, so you can check it out there!

Adleigh Beam, 2026-2027 Student Ambassador!
A new school year means new opportunities at the Eagles Nest, a Branch of First Capital Federal Credit Union. Each year, the Eagles Nest gives a Dover Area High School junior or senior the opportunity to gain real-world work experience as our Student Ambassador. This year, we’re excited to welcome Adleigh Beam!
