Hello Pittaway Families,

Happy October! All things fall are starting to pop up here at Pittaway, and our classrooms are filled with exciting seasonal learning and play!

Our dramatic play centers have been transformed into apple orchards and fall farm stands, where students can pretend to pick apples, rake leaves, buy pumpkins, and even make apple pies. Through these playful experiences, students are building their imaginations, practicing social skills, and learning how to work and play together.

In our sensory and science areas, students are beginning to explore the textures, colors, and smells of fall. They have been using science tools to investigate apples up close, discovering and describing how the inside of an apple looks different from the outside. These hands-on experiences encourage students to observe, ask questions, make discoveries, and build new vocabulary.

Early Release Reminder – October 9th

Please remember that Friday October 9th, is an early release day for teacher professional development. There is no PM preschool session, and our full-day classes will be dismissed at 11:20 a.m. Full-Day students will be provided lunch prior to dismissal.

In addition, there is no Late Pickup Program on this day, so please be sure to make arrangements for your child to be picked up promptly at 11:20 a.m.

Join the Pittaway School Site Council

We are looking for two more parents who would like to join the Pittaway School Site Council. Having parent voices at the table is so important, and this is a wonderful way to be involved in conversations about our school and the needs of our students. School Site Councils are mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Education and work collaboratively with the principal/director to:

  • Adopt educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards.

  • Identify the educational needs of students attending the school.

  • Review the annual school building budget.

  • Help develop the school improvement plan.

Our Site Council will begin meeting in October and will meet once a month on Thursday afternoons from 3:00–4:00 p.m. If you are interested in joining us, please email me at acurley@ashland.k12.ma.us. We would love to have parents join the conversation and share their perspectives!

We are looking forward to a wonderful October filled with pumpkins, apples, colorful leaves, and lots of fall fun!

Best,
Amanda
