Superintendent's Message
April 16, 2024
Dear Parents and Staff,
Today, due to a police presence within a certain part of our community, the normal school day and dismissal procedures were interrupted at several of our schools. The impacted schools included Clow Elementary, Spring Brook Elementary, Welch Elementary, Gregory Middle School, Neuqua Valley High School, and the Birkett Freshman Center with several others impacted by our tiered bus system. Although it was a quickly evolving situation, at no time were our students in danger while the Naperville Police Department conducted their actions.
I want to thank our students, staff, and parents for their actions today. What was evidenced was everyone’s flexibility, adaptability, and ability to follow our practiced procedures when emergencies happen in our schools or communities. Staff, through their strong relationships with students, kept our students engaged and safe. Students demonstrated resilience and exemplified the positive characteristics we see in our students daily. Our parents were respectful, engaged, and stayed informed throughout the procedures today.
The success seen today was due to our partnership with the Naperville Police Department. I thank them for their continued communication with our school district and their presence in ensuring the safety of our students and staff. We value our relationship with the Naperville Police Department, and all our law enforcement partners, in helping to maintain a safe learning environment in our schools.
None of us want these situations to happen, but when they do, it is good to know that our practices for which we are trained do work. We will debrief today’s actions to help us understand what we need to do differently in the future to enhance our practices and procedures when or if we are faced with another emergency.
Again, thank you all for your trust in our school system to protect our children and our staff.
Sincerely,
Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D.
Superintendent
