NES Parent Newsletter 2/23/26
February 23, 2026

Dear NES Families,
We have several field trips occurring in multiple grade levels, please remember when sending in money for field trips to include the permission slip with it and send exact change. Anyone interested in chaperoning for field trips must be approved volunteers. Please visit https://www.okeeschools.org/o/ocsb/page/careers and click the "search open jobs" tab. Click the link to "search current job openings" at the bottom of the page. You will then click the job opening for "volunteer" with a location of North Elementary. This is a PROCESS and is not completed overnight. If you plan to volunteer or attend field trips, we advise you to get this process started as early as possible to be certain you are approved in time.
We have seen an increase in physical aggression and abusive language referrals. We are continuing to work proactively on this through our positive school climate, PBIS, and Energy Bus initiatives, but would appreciate your support at home. Please remind your students of appropriate language at school and how important it is to keep our hands to ourselves or report to an adult if someone else has been aggressive with them.
A few safety reminders:
- If you are coming on campus, even to drop off a student or package, you must show your ID to the camera at the door to enter.
- Parent pick up - students should load from the inside white line. Please pull in the lane that allows your student to load from the inside and not walking around the vehicle out of sight of the adults on duty.
- We are a Tobacco Free Zone. Parents can not smoke on campus (even in your car) once you pass through the gates. We have recently found cigarette butts (some still smoking) in the parking lot where students are walking and had reports that some are smoking in the line and throwing them out the window.
- Please help us in reminding your students the seriousness of making threats to others or themselves. These threats are taken very seriously and students should know it is not an appropriate way to seek attention or voice frustration.
With gratitude and positivity,
Mrs. Jessica Lowe, Principal

Bullying
Systematically and chronically inflicting physical hurt or psychological distress on one or more students or employees. Bullying includes instances of cyberbullying, as defined in Section 1006.147(3)(b), F.S. Bullying may include, but is not limited to, repetitive instances of teasing, social exclusion, threats, intimidation, stalking, physical violence, theft, harassment, public or private humiliation, or destruction of property. If the physical harm or psychological distress is not the result of systematic or chronic behavior, evaluate for Harassment.
SESIR Bullying must include 3 elements: It must be 1) repeated; 2) intentional; and 3) involve a power imbalance.
Examples
- Student uses a cell phone to take a picture of a student using the bathroom at school and shares it electronically.
- Student repeatedly spreads nasty rumors at school about another person.
- Student repeatedly teases another person in a mean way, calling him/her inappropriate names, making fun of his/her appearance, or the way he/she talks, dresses, or acts.
Non-Examples
- Student calls another student an inappropriate name once.
