Dear CPES Families,
Your continued genuine warmth, engagement, and support is a testament to why Cedar Point Elementary is a highly effective school. Thank you for your continued trust as we foster a sense of belonging for every child in a safe, caring learning environment.
Our teachers continue to provide exceptional instructional lessons which have evidenced positive academic progress across all grade levels. This was also accomplished by your willingness to entrust our teachers and staff to foster high expectations for learning, in addition to your commitment of positive family/community involvement.

Cedar Point Backpack Buddies
Thank you to all of our families and staff who donated items to Backpack Buddies! Thanks to your generous donations, and the hard work of our Champion Cheetah students, we were able to pack and deliver 45 backpacks to the Department of Social Services, to benefit local foster children, filled with necessities and comfort items (blankets, stuffed animals, water bottles, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brushes, deodorant, body spray, notebooks/journals, coloring/activity books, markers/crayons/colored pencils, personalized cards).
We hope to continue this program in the future and thank you all for you continued support!
Pyramid Concert Highlights Cedar Point Strings
Our Cedar Point 5th grade strings students enjoyed a half-day field trip and Pyramid Concert performance on Feb. 4 at Patriot High School. During the day, students enjoyed performances by Patriot's orchestra, as well as by our very own strings teacher, Mr. Sam Runolfson. In the evening, our Champion Cheetah strings students performed alongside other orchestra students from T. Clay Wood Elementary, Victory Elementary, Marsteller Middle and Patriot High Schools. Way to go, Cedar Point strings!
Thank you to our parent volunteers who chaperoned the field trip and assisted at the concert. And a special thank you to Mr. Runolfson for coordinating this enriching experience for all of the participants!
Cedar Point Students Shine at All-County Elementary Choir
On Feb. 22, three of our 5th grade students represented Cedar Point Elementary at the PWCS All-County Elementary Choir at Colgan High School, alongside nearly 200 elementary student performers from across Prince William County. Congratulations to our students Trevor Armstrong, Anna Jensen, and Tyler Shaffer, who auditioned for and participated in this amazing musical experience and achievement.
A huge thank you goes to our Cedar Point music teacher and Cheetah Chorus director, Mrs. Maddie Ro, for working with these students in preparation for this event and for continuing to represent Cedar Point at this high level of accomplishment!

Top of the Class - Grade Level News
Pre-K
Our AM and PM Pre-K classes have both been having so much fun this month! Our students are becoming more social and we love spending time with our friends as we learn, create, build, and play!
Kindergarten
On Feb. 13, we celebrated the 100th day of school. Kindergarten students enjoyed a day full of counting, fun 100-day themed activities...and we even saw some 100-year-olds in class for the day!
1st Grade
2nd Grade
In February, 2nd grade learned about famous Americans and holidays, and focused on opinion writing and personal narrative writing. We read and learned about nonfiction text features, point of view, inferences, and asking and answering questions.
In science, we studied life cycles and, in math, 2nd graders practiced their number sense, addition, subtraction, patterns and data.
We are looking forward to spring weather coming soon!
3rd Grade
In February, our 3rd graders had the opportunity to do a "fossil dig" and also learned about animal adaptations, performing experiments to see how polar bear fat helps them stay warm in icy temperatures.
We also participated in Project Love, packing more than 75 gift bags with toys, snacks and basic necessities for children currently calling the SERVE campus (nvfs.org) home. Following this heart-warming Valentine event, 3rd grade parents were invited to the Virginia is for Learners SOL information event to learn more about preparing students to take the Standards of Learning (SOLs).
4th Grade
In 4th grade, we've been learning about ecosystems and studying the Civil War. Our 4th graders have been working on writing imaginative stories and, in math, we just finished up our unit on fractions and are starting on geometry.
Just a reminder that our Jamestown field trip is coming up on April 3! Please return your field trip permission slip as soon as possible. Payment ($53 per student) is due no later than Monday, Mar. 31, and may be paid via cash, check (made out to "Cedar Point Elementary School") or online using Student QuickPay.
