GCIT Rolls Out the Red Carpet for Our Veterans! Love Our Vets Day 2026
On April 28, 2026, the entire GCIT family proudly came together for our annual βLove Our Vetsβ day, a heartfelt tradition dedicated to honoring and thanking our local Veterans for their service to our country.
Throughout the day, our honored guests were pampered, entertained, and treated to delicious meals as they traveled from one end of our school campus to the other. Each stop showcased the talents, hospitality, and respect of our students and staff, creating a warm and welcoming experience for all.
At the end of the event, it was clear that βLove Our Vetsβ day was not only a celebration, but a memorable experience for everyone involved. Love Our Vets Day Shines Bright at GCITβand on the News!
This yearβs Love Our Vets Day was truly unforgettableβand it would not have been possible without the incredible dedication, thoughtful planning, and attention to detail of Mrs. Arnold and Mrs. Mancini. As they prepare to retire this year, they leave behind not only a lasting legacy, but also one of the most meaningful and memorable celebrations our school community has ever experienced.
From the moment our Veterans arrived, the day was filled with powerful and heartwarming moments. Guests were welcomed by a stunning display from the Original Garden State Corvette Club, escorted by bikers, and greeted by the moving sound of bagpipes performed by Mike Williams. The sight of first responders raising the flag by crane in the glistening morning sun set the tone for a day full of pride and gratitude, while a band filled the campus with patriotic music throughout the event.
Our Veterans were treated to a truly special experience, enjoying a wide range of services and performances. They were pampered with hair styling, nail care, and spa treatments provided by our Cosmetology students and staff, and delighted by delicious breakfast and lunch prepared by our Culinary and Baking programs. Entertainment included vibrant performances by our Dance Department and engaging Fitness for Life demonstrations led by our Physical Education staff and students.
The day was made even more meaningful through the contributions of so many programs and individuals. Mr. Roskiewichβs Welding students created a beautiful commemorative plaque for the Veterans Home, while Mr. Heckβs Engineering students, Leo Docimo and Dylan Krzywicki, designed and produced unique 3D medals. Mr. Heil and Isabel Bernard thoughtfully designed the event program, adding another special touch to the day.
We are also deeply grateful to the many student groups and staff members who gave their time and energy, including our School-Based Youth Service Ambassadors, SkillsUSA officers, Student Council officers, and the Acts of Kindness Club. Special thanks go to Dr. Jacob, Pat Mulvenna, Bill Bessler, and the Gloucester County Sheriffβs Officers for their support and presence.
We were honored as well by the attendance of Gloucester County Commissioners Jefferson, Gattinelli, and Bianco, along with Board of Education President Mr. Frattali, whose warm welcome meant so much to our guests.
From the students who escorted Veterans throughout the building to Aubree DeGeorgeβs beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, every detail reflected the heart and unity of the GCIT community.
Adding to the pride of this incredible day, the event received special recognition this year and was featured on 6abc News, highlighting the impact of our students, staff, and community coming together to honor our Veterans.
This event was truly a collaborative effortβone that showcased the very best of who we are as Cheetahs. To everyone who contributed in big and small ways, thank you for helping make this day so special for those who have given so much.

Culture Fest 2026: A Passport to the World at GCIT πβοΈβοΈ
With passports in hand, GCIT students and staff became world travelers during this yearβs Culture Fest 2026! This vibrant, student-led celebration transformed the West Gym and surrounding hallways into a global experience filled with color, culture, and connection.
Organized by the Connecting Cultures Council in collaboration with Student Council and NHS/NTHS, this incredible event showcased the rich diversity within our school community. Fourteen countries were representedβIndia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Hungary, Germany, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentinaβeach offering a unique and immersive experience.
From beautifully decorated tables and authentic artifacts to hands-on crafts, engaging historical displays, and lively music and dance, every corner of Culture Fest brought a new adventure. Students sampled delicious traditional foods, explored cultural customs, learned fun facts, and even experienced elements of sports, dance, and fashion from around the world.
What made this event even more special was the collaboration behind itβover 100 students worked together in teams to research, design, and bring each country to life. Many students drew upon their own family heritage, gathering cultural information and traditions from relatives and ancestors with roots in these countries, making each presentation deeply personal and authentic. This meaningful day was a true celebration of student voice, leadership, and teamwork in action.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Connecting Cultures Councilβespecially Scarlet Knight, Samantha Aguillo, Elizabeth Gordon, and Mr. Fitzgeraldβfor their dedication and vision in bringing this event to life. We also offer our heartfelt thanks to all students, staff, administrators, and parents whose support and participation made this event such a success.
Culture Fest 2026 was more than just an eventβit was a journey that brought our school community closer together through learning, appreciation, and celebration of cultures from around the globe. π

Professional Development, Reimagined: Learning, Creating, and Connecting π¨π§
Staff stepped away from traditional professional development and into something truly specialβa hands-on, engaging experience designed to inspire, recharge, and connect. This unique PD opportunity gave staff the chance to learn a new skill, explore a personal passion, or simply try something new in a relaxed and supportive environment.
With a wide variety of sessions to choose from, there was something for everyone. Staff rolled up their sleeves in sessions like βKnead a Break? Letβs Make Biscuits!β with Chef Clark and Chef Hassan, and βPasta la Vista, Stress!β with Chef Mizia, where the aromas of fresh baking and homemade pasta filled the air.
Others picked up tools in βNailed It! Build Your Desk Organizerβ with Mr. Steve White and Mr. DeFillipo, crafting something both practical and meaningful. Creativity flourished in βGlaze & Unwind: Create Your Ceramic Keepsake!β with Mrs. Grant, while communication skills grew in βHands in Motion: ASL Level Upβ with Ms. Cross-Jones, Ms. Malone, and Ms. Schoettle. Staff also engaged in meaningful conversation and learning during βBeyond the Classroom: Understanding ACEs & Mental Healthβ with Ms. Glazer.
These cross-program sessions provided a powerful opportunity for staff to experience firsthand the incredible work our students engage in every day across GCITβs programs. By building, baking, creating, and learning together, staff gained a deeper appreciation for the skills and expertise taught in our classrooms and shops.
Most importantly, our staff truly embraced the momentβenjoying the chance to work with their hands, collaborate with colleagues, and step into the role of learner. The energy, laughter, and sense of accomplishment were evident in every room.
A special thank you to our talented facilitators for sharing their expertise and passion with our staff, and to all who participated with the same dedication and enthusiasm they bring to their students each day. This was professional development at its bestβmeaningful, memorable, and truly inspiring.
Curtains Up! A Month of Show-Stopping Moments for Troupe 5480
GCIT's Thespian Troupe 5480 members have been extremely busy this month! We started off with our annual whirlwind NYC trip, where we spent two days seeing Stranger Things: The First Shadow and Death Becomes Her, took in the sights in Time Square as well as toured the amazing Broadway museum.
Then back to GCIT to kick off our cabaret where current students took on thespian nationals award-winning material from the last 10 years. They dazzled the audiences with wonderful performances and made our alumni proud.
And speaking of proud we were extremely delighted to announce that Hannah D'Aquila represented GCIT and performed a Shakespearean sonnet and monologue on the famed stage at Lincoln Center competing with students from across the country.

Tasting the World: Spanish IIβs Food Truck Adventure
Students in my Spanish II class were working on Food Truck projects for different countries like Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Argentina and Ecuador. All the countries were represented and students brought all kinds of traditional dishes from their respective countries for students to try.
Students worked on menus that included the traditional dishes and they also put the prices in the countries currency and converted the money to USD to give students a concept of how much the dishes normally cost in the different countries. Students had a wonderful time going around and experiencing the different foods of the different Spanish Speaking Cultures!!

Principal Appreciation Day: A Moment of Gratitude I Will Never Forget
This week, I was deeply honored to celebrate Principal Appreciation Day here at GCIT, a day that gave me the opportunity to reflect on the incredible privilege of serving this school community.
I was completely surprisedβand genuinely movedβby the thoughtful gesture from students in Ms. Matterβs English 10 class, who presented me with a beautifully crafted jar filled with handwritten notes of appreciation, kindness, and encouragement. Each message represented something far greater than words on paper; together, they reflected the heart of our school and the spirit of our students.
As I read through each note, I was reminded in the most powerful way why we choose this profession and why GCIT is such a special place. The words shared by our students were heartfelt, honest, and deeply meaningful. They captured not only their experiences, but also the relationships, trust, and sense of belonging that define our school community.
A few of the messages that truly stayed with me included:
- "Thank you for keeping our school together and providing a safe place for my education. Your daily good mornings make my day just a little bit better."
- "Thank you for keeping GCIT in order and safe."
- "Dr. Girard, I remember on the first day of freshman year, I was so scared about high school, and when I walked out of the car, the first thing I saw was you smiling at me and greeting me, and you put me at ease. I will always hold this close to my heart. High school is a new and scary experience, but you made my first so happy and positive. Thank you for everything you've done for this school, and everything in the future."
- "Dr. Girard, every time I see you I'm greeted with a smile and good morning. Usually principals try to appear tough and more authoritative, but not you. I'll always appreciate how you make school a place where I want to go."
- "Dr. Girard, thank you for caring and being understanding to all GCIT students. When I drive to school, I always look forward to your greeting and appreciate it."
- "Thank you for being such an amazing principal. You are really kind and sweet to everyone around you and provide a really safe and fun school for all of us. You take so much time from your life to always provide us with a weekly newsletter. It makes my day just a little better when you smile at me in the hallway."
- "You are so kind and thoughtful. I always see you smiling in the hallways. You are the best principal I ever had. Thank you for all you do."
- "Dr. Girard, thank you for everything you do for the staff and students at GCIT! You are a wonderful principal, and one of the best I've had!"
Throughout the day on Friday, many students also stopped to drop off a thank you note or took a moment to share their appreciation in the hallway. I heard from students in the Health Sciences, SkillsUSA, Student Council, Dance, Biological Sciences, the ASL students, and many others. Each interaction was a meaningful reminder of the kindness and spirit that exists throughout our building.
My heart is filled with gratitude that I am so fortunate to have such wonderful students. You make me proud every dayβthank you from the bottom of my heart!
Thank You GCIT Staff!
I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible staff for the overwhelming outpouring of appreciation throughout Principal Appreciation Day. Walking in the building and seeing the beautiful displays of handwritten notes and messages of gratitude was truly movingβeach note more thoughtful and impactful than the last. The care, creativity, and sincerity behind them reflect the strength and heart of our GCIT community.
A special thank you to Chef Clark and her students for the delicious treats shared with the administrative staff. Your kindness and generosity were truly appreciated.
I also want to recognize the students and advisors of Student Council for their thoughtful gesture to both me and the assistant principals. In a world where lunch is often a luxury rather than a guarantee, the thoughtfully prepared basket of snacks was not only welcomedβit was deeply valued and will be enjoyed. Your kindness and recognition meant so much to all of us, and your effort did not go unnoticed.
Thank you as well to the World Language Department for the meaningful and thoughtful token of appreciation left in my office. It was a wonderful surprise and a beautiful reminder of the care and pride you bring to our building each day.
Many thanks to all the staff who took the time to stop by the office or connect in the halls to share your appreciation. Whether it was a handwritten note, an email, a text, a card, or a kind word spoken in passing, each gesture meant so much and was truly appreciated.
It is these thoughtful moments that reflect the strength, warmth, and spirit of our GCIT community. I am sincerely grateful for your kindness and support.
Without question, GCIT has the best staff in Gloucester County!
Finally, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our administrative team. Your support, collaboration, and shared commitment make the work we do at GCIT both meaningful and worthwhile. It is truly a privilege to work alongside such dedicated professionals who care deeply about our students, staff, and school community.
Thank you all for making GCIT such a special place. Your kindness, partnership, and appreciation mean more than words can fully express.

Fore the Record: GCIT Golf Tees Up a Historic Run! β³
What was expected to be a rebuilding year quickly turned into something far more memorable for the GCIT golf team this season. Entering the year with a young roster and limited varsity experience, the focus was on development, patience, and laying a foundation for the future. Instead, the team delivered one of the most impressive seasons in program history.
As the season progressed, it became clear that this group had something special. Match by match, the players grew more confident, more consistent, and more competitive. Early growing pains gave way to steady improvement, and by the time the final stretch of the season arrived, the team found itself in position to do the unexpectedβmake a push for the sectional tournament.
Facing pressure-packed matches down the stretch, the team rose to the occasion. With composure and determination, they put together their best performances when it mattered most. The defining moment came in their final qualifying opportunity, where the team delivered a record-tying low score of 149, an achievement that not only showcased their talent, but also secured their place in the sectional. Please wish the golf team good luck as they play in the State Sectional tournament this Monday.
