Drill Notification
Student and staff safety is always our top priority. As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment, we conduct required safety drills throughout the school year. These drills help ensure that students and staff know what to do in the event of an emergency.
Today, our students and staff participated in the bus evacuation drill.
Our next safety drill of the year is:
- Shelter-in-Place Drill: September 9
We take these drills seriously and will communicate with students in an age-appropriate way before each drill.
If you have any questions or concerns about our safety procedures or upcoming drills, please contact your building principal.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school community safe!
đ± Technology Reminder
Just a friendly reminder that students should be mindful of their technology use throughout the school day. Cell phones and smartwatches should not be used to send or receive text messages or phone calls during the school day.
We appreciate your help in reinforcing these expectations with your child and thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep students focused and engaged in learning!

đŸ ROAR Assembly Next Week!
Our ROAR Assembly is coming up next week! Students will review our ROAR expectationsâRespect, Ownership, Attitude, and Responsibilityâand learn more about how they can earn Panther Bucks, Golden Tickets, and Class ROAR Tickets for demonstrating these important behaviors.
We kicked off the year with ROAR lessons on the very first day of school, where students learned specific expectations for the hallways, lunchroom, playground, and bathrooms. We are excited to continue building a positive school culture where students can ROAR each and every day! đŸ

Hearing and Vision Screenings
In accordance with the Illinois Child Vision and Hearing Test Act (410 ILCS 205/), the [Illinois Department of Public Health] (IDPH) mandates that children at specific age and grade levels receive annual hearing and vision screenings.
Our school will begin conducting these screenings on September 8th for the following students:
Hearing Screening: Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.
Vision Screening: Preschool, Kindergarten, 2nd, and 8th grades.
Other Categories: All students in Special Education, students new to the district, or any student specifically referred by a teacher.
These screenings will be performed during the school day by our district nurse, Kelly Waters BSN, RN.
Vision screening does not replace a comprehensive eye exam, and children with a recent professional evaluation on file are exempt.
Next Steps & Exemptions
Screenings are provided free by an IDPH-certified technician, serving as a preliminary check rather than a full medical exam.
Results: You are notified only if your child does not pass, which includes recommendations for follow-up.
Opt-Outs: To exempt your child, submit a recent eye exam report or a signed religious objection to the school nurse prior to the date.

Hi my name is Madison Shedbalkar-Scanlan and I am a social work student at Aurora University pursuing my Master's degree. Professionally I also work in a youth-serving mentoring organization when I am not interning with Prairie Grove. I spend the majority of my free time with my three year old son exploring new parks, playing imaginative games, and building lots of forts! I am excited to work alongside you and your children this school year, get to know what makes each of them unique, and support them in growing their confidence and building upon their strengths. I look forward to a wonderful school year together!
Hi my name is Tyler Slotowski. I am currently attending the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where I am pursuing a Masters in Social Work. I currently live in Lakemor, IL. I am excited to meet and get to know your children, and I look forward to supporting them throughout the school year and being a reassuring, friendly resource for them every day.
