🆘 Madrona Family Resources - Food and Community Support 🆘 Madrona Family Resources - Food and Community Support

As we head into the winter months we are aware that an increase in need can occur. Additionally, with the government shut down, this limits many families' budgets for food and resources. We wanted to share some school, local and state resources that may be able to provide support.

Check out these two pages on the MIT website for information on community resources available! We'll continue to update this list as we work to find more ways to support Madrona families

List of Madrona-Specific Resources (Scroll to the end of the FAQ)
List of Food Resources for Everyone

🤝 Free and Reduced Meals 🤝 Free and Reduced Meals

💛 If you’re experiencing a change in income — whether from the shutdown or any other reason — please take a moment to apply for Free and Reduced Meals. This program allows for students of qualifying households to recieve one full beakfast and lunch each school day.

📝 The application is just a snapshot in time, so even if things turn around quickly, it’s still worth applying. If your income fluctuates, use the lowest amount you might expect to receive when filling it out.

✅ If approved, you’ll qualify for the rest of the school year. There’s no need to notify our department when things improve. Instead, let this time help you build a strong foundation for your family.

💬 If you have questions or need help with the application, we’re here for you. Contact our department at: fnsoffice@edmonds.wednet.edu or (425) 431 - 7077.

🚨 Replacement Educational & Operational Programs Levy Information - Please Vote 🚨 Replacement Educational & Operational Programs Levy Information - Please Vote

Votes are counted February 10! Please Vote!

The Replacement Educational & Operational Programs Levy will be back on the ballot this election, and it is up for a vote on February 10.

This levy is renewed every 4 years, and is not a new tax. If the levy does not pass, there will be a deficit of approximately 15% of the total Edmonds School District budget ($361 million total, or $90.25 million per year).

If you would like to help, we have some volunteer outreach opportunities available. These include:

  • Phone banking - Please sign up here: https://volunteersignup.org/DF8HM

💰 Madrona Grants - Updates on Fall Grants, January Grants Now Open 💰 Madrona Grants - Updates on Fall Grants, January Grants Now Open

Madrona Integrated Team (MIT) has allocated $15,000 in grant money to be awarded over the course of the school year. All MIT members (parents, caregivers, students, teachers, etc) may apply for a grant up to $2,500 to benefit students at Madrona.

There is $6700 remaining for grants during this round.

The winners for the first round were:

  • New compost items for food service/custodial - $600
  • Kelso's Choices Banners - $700
  • Microphone Replacement for Madrona Children’s Theatre - $2000

You are invited to submit a grant proposal to benefit students at Madrona!

“Grant proposal” is just a fancy way of saying “write up your idea”

The way you write it doesn’t need to be perfect - we will be looking at ideas, not spelling or grammar.

If you feel you need assistance writing up your grant application for any reason, please reach out to your friendly Grant Administrator.

We will be accepting submissions 3 times yearly. The second deadline is Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Full information and application

We are also looking for Grant Readers to read and score grant submissions to help determine recipients. We are expecting the time commitment to be a few hours 3 times yearly - how much time will depend on the number of applications. Apply here to be a Grant Reader

🧑‍🚒 Volunteer Safety - Drills & Evacuations

OK, you're volunteering in a classroom or other area of the school, and you hear the alarm go off... What do you do?

In the event of a drill or an evacuation, volunteers must :

  • Proceed to the flagpole after exiting the building.
  • DO NOT stay with the classroom you are volunteering in!
  • The classroom teachers do NOT have access to the volunteer sign-in list.
  • The front office will have the sign-in list to determine what volunteers are still at Madrona and ensure that everyone is safely outside of the building.

------------

We do what we can to help get the word out, but we are a volunteer staff! Your contributions and feedback are invaluable in helping us make sure we are communicating effectively with the whole Madrona community.

A Note from Your MIT Communications Coordinator

Hi! I'm Dan Hart, your friendly neighborhood MIT Communications Coordinator. I will be responsible for sending the weekly MIT newsletter on Sundays. My goal is to continue to keep this newsletter fresh, fun to read, and informative for the whole Madrona community!

You may notice that this email is a little lighter on images than usual. After some feedback, we've decided to move away from the use of AI images as part of our newsletter theme (other than when they are used as the graphic for a specific event). Instead, we'll be coordinating with the centers and Spark! to include student artwork in the newsletter. Watch for this in the near future!

🎁 Feedback is always a gift, and I invite you to give us the gift of your feedback!

Please email me with feedback and suggestions including, but not limited to:

  • What do you like
  • What could improve
  • Suggest a theme
  • Any other feedback or suggestions!
