Rocky Point Weekly Update
March 30th-April 3rd
Hello Rocky Point Families
Thank you for your continued partnership as we continue to work diligently to prepare our students to be confident in their knowledge and abilities as we move closer to end of year assessments. This last nine weeks is definitely a very busy time of learning and end of year activities. I apologize for the overload of information in this weekend’s update, however our goal is to ensure you are most informed in regard to upcoming assessments, presentations and events. Please make sure to mark your calendars for everything coming up during the remainder of our school year.
Proctors Needed
We are in need of test proctors during our End-of-Grade testing window, May 8 - 20. High days of demand for proctors are Friday, May 8, Tuesday, May 12 and Thursday, May 14. Test proctors help to monitor students during our test sessions. Test sessions typically run from 7:30 - 11:30 a.m.. Please complete this form if you are able to volunteer to proctor to assist with testing during the month of May.
NC Check-in Spring Benchmarks Continue this week
We are so proud of students’ performance on their reading and math spring NC Check-ins this past week! Many students showed significant growth from their winter to their spring assessments. NC Science spring check-ins will be taken by 5th grade students only this Tuesday, March 31. If students are not at school by 7:20 a.m. and teachers and administration do not know why students are absent, you will receive a phone call as we cannot allow students into their testing session after the assessments have begun. Additionally, students in grades 3-5 will take a cumulative district math assessment tomorrow, Monday, March 30.
Pender County Schools Job Fair - Tuesday, March 31
Pender County Schools will be hosting a job fair at Heide Trask High School in the gymnasium on March 31 from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. This is for classified and certified employees. High school seniors are also encouraged to attend. ESS (our substitute company), HES (our janitorial company) and PACES Afterschool programming will all be in attendance. Maintenance, Transportation, Technology, Operations, and Aramark will all be set up as well as all Pender County schools.
Field Day Preparation & Volunteers Needed - April 2
Mr. Smith, our RPE Physical Education teacher, is continuing to seek volunteers for this year’s field day to be held this Thursday, April 2. If you are able and interested in volunteering for this year’s field day event, please complete this form. All support is highly appreciated!
All guests must sign in the office when you arrive on campus whether you are planning to be inside or outside with students. If you would like to check your child out at the end of the day, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students will be checked out of the main office and 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be checked out at a table outside near the big playground. Additionally, as we have previously sent home with students, below is an outline of the day for students:
Ronald McDonald Pop Tab Challenge Continues
A surgery date has been set for one of our very own Rocky Point Elementary family members! Please consider saving and sending in all of your tabs from soda, food and pet food cans before April 2nd in order for us to send them all with the family to the Ronald McDonald House as they head there during spring break. Again, collecting can pop tabs supports the operating costs of providing a home away from home for families with sick children. Let’s work together to collect as many pop tabs as possible!
Spring Break - April 3 - April 10
Pender County Schools spring break will begin on Friday, April 3 through Friday, April 10. We hope that your family has a wonderful Easter weekend and great spring break!
Military Spirit Week - April 13 -17
Please plan to celebrate our men and women of the armed services when we return from spring break during the week of April 13. Please click on the link below to see the theme for each day.
Boots & Blossoms Spring Fling - April 16
Our PTO is hosting a Spring Fling on Thursday, April 16 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Students MUST be accompanied by an adult and all families are welcomed. Students are invited to dress in country western attire (examples: Denim, Plaid, Cowboy Hats, Boots, Bandanas) for a fun school dance with games and concessions available for purchase. There will be an entry charge of $2.00 per student with adults getting in free. Space will be limited, therefore please complete this RSVP form by Tuesday, March 31.
Bus Ridership for the 2026-2027 School Year - Due April 17
Please help us as we prepare our routing for the 2026-27 school year. Students previously came home with a parent letter from our PCS Transportation Department. Each letter is individualized to each student, therefore if you have misplaced yours or did not receive it, please contact the school or email rpe_info@pender.k12.nc.us in order for us to send another copy home with your child. These letters contain each student’s current bus stop information. If the stop location fields are blank, it means the student is not currently assigned to a bus. If there are no changes to be made, we are requesting for each parent/guardian to circle all “YES”s on the letter. All “YES” forms must be turned in to the administrative office of the school no later than April 17th, 2026. If changes do need to be made, please circle “NO”s (as directed and written in the letter) and proceed to completing the Google form and update your transportation needs for the upcoming school year. The Google form is now accepting responses! Link: 2026-27 School Bus Ridership Form
Choose Love Presentation - April 20
Join us at Topsail High School for an inspiring presentation from Scarlett Lewis from the Choose Love Movement and discover how courage, gratitude, forgiveness, and compassion can empower students to navigate challenges, strengthen resilience, and build a safer, more supportive and healthier school community. This framework was created in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.

Million Minute Reading Challenge, Read Around the Bases & Homework Expectations
Our reading challenge at RPE in conjunction with the PCS Million Minute Reading Challenge is ongoing. At the district level, “The Final Push: Race to the Finish Line” reading challenge begins today, Sunday, March 29th. Our team name is the Racing Reading Rams! Please continue to complete reading logs with your child or enter your minutes online as we enter this competition against other schools around our district. Additionally, if students read for a minimum of 45 minutes a week and complete their reading log, they will receive 2 tickets to go watch a Wilmington Sharks baseball game on June 1. If at all possible, please take the time to help your child meet this goal and sign your child’s paper reading log or input minutes using the google form each night. The PCS Million Minute Reading Challenge Google Form can be found here, RPE Million Minute Reading Challenge, and in Classlink of your child’s computer. Let’s keep reading!
Please continue to support students in completing their adaptive practice in their online Freckle program on their chromebooks throughout the week. Please support your child in completing a total of 45 minutes at home each week in math for grades 2-5 and in reading for grades 3-5. Help guides are linked below:
