4J Libraries are Happening Places!

Libraries are pretty special places, not only are they home to fabulous, diverse, engaging books, but libraries provide safe spaces for students to collaborate, investigate and explore. At Monroe Middle School, library manager, Buffy Ritchie, is doing just that! Students flock to the library during lunchtime not only to check out books, but to answer the riddle of the day and try a hand at sewing, crocheting, painting, or whatever makerspace challenge Ms. Buffy has for the week. It's an exciting place to be and students love visiting the library.

New Chavez teacher librarian, Martha Dyer, has been collaborating with her staff during read-alouds to bring the Spanish language to life. During a visit to the library Ms. Dyer and kinder teacher, Mariah Engle, read aloud Por Amor Al Futbol/For the Love of Soccer by Pelé in both English and Spanish. Kindergartners learned all about being good teammates.

Sheldon high school students have been keeping teacher librarian Kori Kutnz busy during check out this September. Students are checking our books at record rates while teachers are bringing classes down to kick off Book Love, a program that encourages students to read a book of their choosing for ten minutes a day during class.

4J libraries are filled with great books and we also have an amazing digital collection available in Sora with new books being added all the time. 4J students and staff can login to Sora via an app on a tablet, phone, or a web browser at soraapp.com. Learn how to log in here.
