CTE teacher, Mr. Monroe, arranged an amazing opportunity for Burgaw Middle School last week. A member of the Phoenix Suns organization joined students on virtual call to share information about careers in professional sports and pursuing educational opportunities.
Ms. Franklin, who leads a team of Human Resources personnel, shared the following advice:
- Athletes represent only a small number of the jobs in professional sports.
- 600 full time and 650 part time jobs support 45 athletes
- Jobs include accounting, trainers, publicity, marketing, logistics, event management, human resources, communications, sales, housekeeping, security, and much more!
Ms. Franklin advised students to choose an educational program that you enjoy, even if you don't have it all figured out. No what career you choose, you will probably work with people; getting along with people sets you up for long-term success. When things get tough, persevere. Success is often on the other side of disappointment.
Thanks to Mr. Monroe for bringing this opportunity to your students!

Over the next couple of weeks, students enrolled in CTE courses will be participating in a short CTE Course Evaluation Survey during class. The survey is completely anonymous and will not collect any personal information from students.
The purpose of this survey is to gather valuable student feedback to help us improve instructional strategies, classroom experiences, and CTE programming across the district.
If you prefer for your child not to participate in the survey, please notify your child’s CTE teacher or contact the school to opt out.

Throughout the month, every school in the district will collect non-perishable food items, ensuring that all donations stay local to benefit Pender County families. This initiative brings together students, staff, and families in a united effort to make a meaningful difference during the holiday season.
Requested donation items include:- Cereal, canned tuna, canned chicken, peanut butter, and condiments.
- The district is also collecting individually packaged snacks such as granola bars, Pop-Tarts, tuna packets, beef jerky, crackers, ramen noodles, pudding cups, Jell-O cups, fruit cups, Rice Krispie treats, and Cheez-Its.
“This food drive is about more than filling bins, it’s about filling hearts,” said Superintendent Dr. Brad Breedlove. “It’s a reminder that even small acts of generosity add up to something powerful when we come together.”
Collection bins will be available at all schools throughout November, and families are encouraged to participate and help spread kindness and compassion across the community.
