🪀📚 LT Community Item Exchange: Share the Love! 🪀📚 LT Community Item Exchange: Share the Love!

Have a great book, toy, game, puzzle, or art supply that your family has outgrown—but that still has lots of life left? Pass it along for free and keep the good stuff circulating! ♻️

Our new LT Community Item Exchange is a simple way to share great things, support our teachers, reduce waste, and help families discover something new-to-them.

How it works: Add items you’d like to give away to Tab 1 of the spreadsheet. Teachers get the first two weeks to claim items for their classrooms. After two weeks, anything still available opens up to LT families. Tab 2 is a Teacher Wish List, where teachers can share books or items they’d love for their classrooms.

Please make sure all donations are clean, complete, and in great working condition. Then sit back and see where your outgrown treasures find their next home! 💚

🙋 Reminder: Volunteer & Get Involved! 🙋 Reminder: Volunteer & Get Involved!

We need YOU to keep our community strong! Whether you have an hour or more (or less), there’s a role for everyone.

To celebrate their hard work, we’ll be hosting a Publishing Party. Stop by, read some of our students’ books, leave a compliment for our young authors, and celebrate their creativity with us!

  • The Nov 3 Day Off Camp will be posted on Oct. 23 here (when live)!

Reading and Math with Friends

We are so thankful to have another year of Reading and Math with Friends coming up. If you have had a student that has participated then you know just how special and valuable this program really is to help our students in their educational journeys. Thank you to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation for assisting us with the funds to keep this going.

What is Reading & Math With Friends?

  • Reading & Math With Friends is a small-group academic support program designed to help bridge the gap between whole-group classroom instruction and the additional practice or support some students may need.

  • Students will work consistently with the same small group, where students have similar academic needs, and teacher, allowing teachers to better understand each student’s needs, target specific skills, and monitor their growth throughout the year.

  • Students may receive support in Reading/ELA, Math, or both and will be placed into one of two support levels:

    • Priority Support — 2 days per week
For students demonstrating greater academic need who would benefit from more frequent support.

    • Academic Boost — 1 day per week
For students who would benefit from additional practice, reinforcement, and support with specific skills.

How Will Students Be Placed?

Placement will be informed by a combination of:

  • Parent/guardian interest

  • Teacher recommendations

  • Beginning-of-Year (BOY) data

  • Demonstrated academic need

  • Appropriate small-group placement

  • Program availability

Program Start Dates

Cycle 1: Start Date: October 26th
Midyear Reset & Data Review: January 25 – February 5
Cycle 2: Start Date: February 8th

👉If you are interested in having your child considered for Reading & Math With Friends, please complete our Parent Interest Form HERE.

🚨Please submit the form by Tuesday, October 20th

Please note that completing the interest form does not guarantee enrollment. Once interest forms, teacher recommendations, and student data have been reviewed, families will receive additional communication regarding placement, scheduling, and next steps.

THANK YOU

For the second year in a row, we tip our hats to Dave Laman, Josh Hart, and Mike McCartin — the driving force behind our inaugural Golf Outing at the historic Langston Golf Course (aka the Golf Dads). You did it again! You brought friends together on the greens, built community through laughter and friendly competition, and helped raise vital funds (about $17K) for Ludlow-Taylor Elementary! Thank you for your leadership, your spirit, and your dedication to our school. We cannot wait for next year!

📚October Reading Challenge

From October 1–29, students will compete against the other classes in their grade to see which class can read the most during our Monster Mash Reading Challenge! Students will track their reading minutes throughout the competition and help their class climb the leaderboard. The goal is to build strong reading habits while having some friendly competition.

The winning class in each grade will earn two special privileges. They’ll get to go first in our Halloween Costume Parade and bring their lunch to the library for a special class lunch.

Parents and guardians can log their child’s reading minutes here:
