October 2025
Message from Principal Brant Bemus
Dear North High Families, Students, and Staff,
It’s hard to believe we’re already well into October! The school year is off to an incredible start, and I couldn’t be more proud of the energy, effort, and enthusiasm our students and staff have shown so far. From engaging classroom activities to impressive achievements in the arts and athletics, there’s so much to celebrate at North High. Be sure to explore the newsletter below to see all the wonderful things happening around our school community!
As we look ahead, I want to highlight our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 28th and 30th. These meetings are an important part of your student’s success—they provide a valuable opportunity to sit down with teachers, review your child’s progress, and work together to support their continued growth. We strongly encourage all parents and guardians to attend and take advantage of this meaningful time to connect. Please use the link below in the Parent-Teacher Conference section to schedule times to see your students' teachers
Please also remember that there will be no school on Thursday, October 30th (Due to Conferences) AND Friday October 31st (Exchange day for staff working P-T Conferences).
Finally, don’t miss the Stars Sports Report featured below! This special segment, created by our very own Mr. Ethan Sorenson, 9th grade English teacher and coach, highlights the many great things happening in North High athletics. Mr. Sorenson puts this report together weekly entirely on a volunteer basis, and we’re grateful for his dedication to celebrating our student-athletes and sharing their accomplishments with our school community.
Thank you for your continued support in making North High such a vibrant, caring, and successful learning community.
Mr. Brant Bemus

Pro-Start Funsies
Mrs.Miller and her Pro-Start classes kicked off the new school year with a bang. While the smells from her classroom fill the school with deliciousness, we are all left to wonder what they are cooking up - upstairs. Each school year the ProStart program has offered a sign-up for teachers who would like to purchase a tasty lunch on designated days. The first staff lunch this year included chili with a delicious cinnamon roll.
During teacher workday on Friday, October 10th her class presented a beautiful charcuterie board (table) that you almost didn't want to eat, just because of how beautifully it was presented.
Huge Shoutout and a Big Thanks to Mrs.Miller and her Pro-Start class, we can't wait to see what else they cook up this year!

Immunizations
Parents and guardians, Iowa law requires students to have certain immunizations, vision screenings, and dental screenings before starting school in the fall.
Your student will not be able to attend school in the fall without proof of the required immunizations and screenings
Please make sure your #SCCSD student is up to date before the first day of school. You can find the complete list of necessary immunizations and screenings on our website, including requirements for preschool students: https://bit.ly/vision-dental-immunization-req.
Start the Day with Breakfast
Studies show a strong connection between eating breakfast and improved academic performance. To support a healthy learning environment, our school provides breakfast daily in addition to lunch. Breakfast is served at our building from 7 am to 8 am.
Visit the District's website for more information on the District’s breakfast and lunch menus.
KUDOS RECOGNITION
Do you know someone in the District who goes above and beyond or makes a positive impact? Tell us about this person and share stories and personal reflections so we can recognize individuals who make exceptional contributions to education, our students, and our school community. Any individual may submit a KUDOS nomination to recognize an SCCSD employee.
SECURE ENTRANCES
Monitoring our entrances is a top priority. As we continue to strive to provide a safe and secure learning environment, we have recognized that there are some enhancements that can be made.
ALL students and guests are expected to enter through the front entrance. Students who are found to prop doors or let others (including students) into the building bypassing the front entrance will be given school consequences up to and including school suspension.
