Principal's Corner
Dear Cielo Vista Families,
Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a wonderful and restful winter break. We’re excited to kick off the spring semester with positive energy and enthusiasm!
This month, we’ll be hosting our Cane’s Spirit Night, and we encourage everyone to come out, support our school, and enjoy some quality family time together.
As we begin this semester, we want to emphasize the importance of academics and attendance. Every day counts, and being present in class helps your child stay on track and succeed. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure your child is ready to learn each day.
Please continue reminding your children to demonstrate our Bobcat expectations and show ROAR throughout the school day. Working together, we can make this a fantastic semester filled with growth and achievement!
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our school community.
Warm regards,
Maria Guerra

Assistant Principal Corner
Hello Cielo Vista Community,
As we begin the spring semester, we want to highlight the importance of positive behavior and consistent attendance. Let’s start strong by showing up every day and making the most of our learning time together.
This month, students who meet the attendance challenge will earn a special reward. Students in grades 1–5 will enjoy time playing on the Nintendo Switch, while our PreK-3, PreK-4, and Kindergarten students will get time to explore and play in the Maker Space.
Let’s make attendance a priority and be present every day!
Thank you for your continued support.
Please feel free to reach out to me anytime at cfierro1@episd.org or 915-236-8375.

Happy January Families!
This month our core value is Commitment, making a plan and putting it into practice. Here are some ideas on how to talk about the core value at home throughout the month of January.
SAY IT:
Commitment: Making a plan and putting it into practice
KNOW IT:
ASK A GROWN-UP:
•Describe a commitment you have made in your life. What was your plan and how did you put it into practice?
•Why is it important to stick with your commitments?
ASK A KID:
•Describe a commitment you have to make at school or in an extracurricular activity.
•How can making a plan help you stick to your commitments?
SEE IT:
In the movie Up, Carl makes a commitment to take his wife Ellie on a dream vacation to
Paradise Falls. As life continues to move along, many obstacles arise making it difficult to
fulfill this commitment. When Ellie passes away, Carl is left alone, and decides to make a plan
and finally fulfill this commitment in memory of his wife. This movie is an excellent example of
the commitment Carl makes to his wife Ellie and his determination to follow through on their
dreams.
Take a few minutes to watch the trailer for Up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWEW_qTLSEE
BE IT:
Plan a family movie night to watch the movie Up. Discuss the power of making a commitment
and working hard to follow through to achieve that commitment. As a family, commit to
something you want to accomplish. Maybe it’s a vacation you want to take, a project around
the house, a person you want to help, or just to consistently spend time together as a family.
Write out a plan of how you are going to make this commitment become a reality. Encourage
each other as you work hard to put this plan into practice.
🩺 School Nurse Newsletter
❄️ Happy New Year, Bobcat Families! 🐾
January is a great time to refresh healthy habits and focus on keeping our students feeling their best during the winter months. The health office is always here to support your child’s well-being and learning.
🤧 Winter Health Tips
Cold and flu season is here! Help keep our school healthy by:
• Encouraging frequent handwashing
• Teaching children to cover coughs and sneezes
• Making sure students get enough sleep
• Keeping children home if they have a fever of 100.4°F or higher, vomiting or diarrhea, or illness that prevents learning
Students must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.
🧤 Dress for the Weather
Cool mornings and chilly days mean students should come to school with a warm coat, hat and gloves, and closed-toe shoes. Weather permitting, students will continue to enjoy outdoor recess.
👀 Vision & Hearing
If your child complains of headaches, difficulty seeing the board, or trouble hearing, please reach out to the nurse or your child’s healthcare provider. Early support makes a big difference!
💊 Medication Reminder
All prescription and over-the-counter medications must be brought to school by an adult, be in the original container, and have completed school medication forms. Please do not send medication in backpacks.
🏫 Attendance Matters
Healthy Bobcats learn best! Thank you for supporting regular attendance while keeping students home when they are sick.
