Principal's Corner
Dear Hirsch Hawk Families,
It’s STAAR season at Hirsch Elementary! Our 3rd–5th grade students are preparing to show what they know on their state assessments, and we are so proud of the focus, growth, and grit they’ve shown all year long. Our teachers have been working incredibly hard to prepare them, and with your support at home, we know our unstoppable heroes will soar!
Here’s a quick refresher on the STAAR achievement levels you’ll see when results come in:
-
Did Not Meet Grade Level – Your child did not demonstrate sufficient understanding of grade-level content and is not prepared for the next grade.
-
Approaches Grade Level – Your child shows some understanding and may need additional support in the next grade.
-
Meets Grade Level – Your child demonstrates strong understanding and is on track for success in the next grade.
-
Masters Grade Level – Your child shows an advanced understanding and is highly likely to succeed in the next grade.

🛑 Heads up! Campus closed to visitors April 15–25
To maintain a secure and quiet testing environment, Hirsch Elementary will be closed to all visitors—including lunch visitors—from April 15 through April 25. Please plan accordingly. We appreciate your support in helping us create the best possible setting for our students to show what they know!
Support Your Child at Home:
Testing can bring some nerves, so here are a few things you can do to help your child feel calm and confident:
-
Early bedtime the night before
-
Nutritious breakfast (low sugar, high protein)
-
Talk through any worries and offer reassurance
-
Teach calming strategies like deep breathing, stretching, or saying positive affirmations like “I’m ready” or “I believe in myself”
👧🏽 Parents of PK–2nd Graders:
Even though your child isn’t STAAR testing, end-of-year assessments are just a few weeks away! Now is a great time to begin conversations about doing your best, staying focused, and finishing strong. These moments lay the foundation for confident learners in the years ahead.
When scores come in, they will represent the incredible effort of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the unwavering support of our families. We are so grateful for your partnership—and we love teaching your children each and every day.
P.S. Don't forget there is NO SCHOOL on Friday, April 18th. Happy Easter!
With gratitude,
Principal Patterson
