A note from Principal Ballard
Dear Winchester Avenue Families,
February is a time when we focus on caring for othersโusing kind words, helping a classmate, and making positive choices even when things feel challenging. These moments help shape not only strong learners, but thoughtful and responsible humans.
๐ MARCH MADNESS: READING & CELEBRATIONS๐
As we move into March, we have some exciting events on the horizon:
March 2nd โ March 6th: Read Across America Week & Battle of the Books! ๐ Get ready for a week full of literary magic, themed dress-up days, and our friendly Battle of the Books competition. Letโs show our PK-2 students how much fun reading can be!
March 13th: 3rd Nine Weeks Reward โ BOUNCY HOUSE DAY! ๐ฐ (flyer below)
To celebrate our hard-working students, we are bringing the inflatables to the school!
A Note on Eligibility: Participation in the Bouncy House event is a reward for maintaining positive behavior. To ensure a safe and fun environment, students who have received numerous Red Owls or Office Write-ups during this nine-week period will not attend the jump session. Instead, they will participate in a Positive Behavior Reteach Session to refocus on our school expectations and prepare for future success.
We are grateful for the continued partnership between school and home. Your support in encouraging regular attendance, positive behavior, and a love of learning makes a meaningful difference. Together, we are creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where all students feel valued and empowered to succeed.
Thank you for being an important part of our school family.
Warmly,
Principal Ballard

- Snow Days #1-5: Traditional Snow Days
- Snow Days # 6-10: Remote Learning Days
As of January 30, BCS has used all 5 traditional snow days. Any future inclement weather days will be Remote Learning Days following the schedule below.
Please see Our Instructional Focuses Below
High Impact Instructional Practices focus on ensuring all instruction is purposeful, rigorous, and student-centered. Lessons are aligned to grade-level standards and include clear, visible objectives that identify both what students must know and how they will apply that knowledge. Instruction intentionally builds academic vocabulary through curriculum-based opportunities for exploration and understanding.Teachers support students in moving from teacher-led instruction to independent learning through inquiry and gradual release. Finally, students are provided opportunities to integrate learning and produce original work by synthesizing information from multiple sourcesโbuilding purpose, power, and practice in every classroom.
