Principal's Message
Dear Hiteon Community,
We are excited to begin another wonderful school year at Hiteon Elementary! The new school year brings new opportunities to learn, make friends, and create lasting memories. Our custodial staff have been hard at work preparing the school for the return of our students! The hallways look absolutely beautiful and are begging for the return of our Hiteon students! This summer our former Assistant Principal became Cooper Mountain Elementary's principal, and we are fortunate to have Krystin Murphy as our new Assistant Principal. She comes to us from Kinnaman Elementary where she was the Assistant Principal. I truly enjoyed getting to know this amazing educator over the summer!
This is a reminder that the first two weeks of school are some of the most important days of the entire school year. During this time, students learn the routines and expectations that help them feel confident and successful in their classrooms. They also begin building relationships with their teachers and classmates, creating friendships and a sense of belonging that will support them throughout the year.
This year, our school calendar is a little different, with school beginning two weeks before Labor Day. Please mark your calendars now—Tuesday, August 25 is the first day of school for students in grades 1–5. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back in the building and kicking off another fantastic year together!
Kindergarten families have a different schedule included in this newsletter. The first week of school gives our youngest students a chance to see their classroom and meet their teacher and students in their class, in a thoughtful manner to ensure a positive experience.
All students are invited to bring their school supplies (if they didn't order them through EPI) at our "Meet Your Teacher" night on Thursday, August 20th from 4:30-6:30pm. This is an exciting time when our community gathers together to meet teachers, learn about community resources and clubs, share with the teacher going home plans and tour our awesome campus.
We are looking forward to another GREAT year!
Janet Maza (Principal) and Krystin Murphy (Assistant Principal)

After School Club Survey
Hiteon enjoys bringing After School Clubs to our student community. We've offered Play Fit Fun, LEGOS, Art Club and others throughout the years.
We want to hear from parents to see what interests you and your students are interested in. Please fill out this short survey to let us know what you would like to see next school year.
Please be aware that we have limited space for clubs so not everything suggested will be implemented.
Thank you for your time.

Volunteer Check-In Requirements
It has come to our attention that there’s a need for clarification regarding school volunteers and whether they are required to sign in through the Raptor kiosk. In short, the answer is YES.
While volunteers may use the Raptor Safe app to sign up for events in advance, this action does not constitute official check-in upon arrival. Signing up through the app simply indicates intent to participate, it does not sign them into the event. This distinction is critical for two key reasons:
Mandatory Sex Offender Screening: The real-time background check is only triggered when a volunteer checks in at the on-site Raptor tablet kiosk. Without this step, the required screening doesn’t occur.
Emergency Accountability: If a volunteer is not signed in through the kiosk, the school has no record of their presence on campus. This poses a serious risk in the event of an emergency where accurate headcount and location tracking are essential.
Every volunteer must physically check in at the kiosk each time that they arrive on campus. This is the only way to ensure compliance with safety protocols and to maintain a secure environment for our students and staff.
If you haven't done your background check to volunteer at Hiteon, you can start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
