Our Literacy Coach! (Ms. Davis)

The April events calendar at the Salem Public Library is filling up with fun events like sensory bin play, story time, knitting club and even a family trivia night

Our 3rd-5th graders will be taking the ELA MCAS in the first couple weeks of April. We are confident they are going to do their very best. Families can give their students a little extra love and help them get a good night’s sleep!

Our Science Coach! (Ms. Panacopoulos)

Earth day is April 22! There are lots of ways you can help our planet. Our 3-5th graders have been learning all kinds of ways to make positive change and reduce our impact on earth through In school field trips with Change is Simple.

Over April Break, pick an activity from this list that you can do to celebrate our one and only home planet.

Find a local Earth Day Event here.

Our Multi-Lingual Learners Team (ML Team)

ML students continue to work on their thematic units as they learn English.

Kindergarten ML students worked hard on the unit “Then and Now.” They presented to other students and adults in the building, and also presented at the school committee meeting. We are so proud of them!

ML 1st graders are wrapping the unit growing and changing about life cycles. 2nd graders have completed a unit called “Lending a Hand” and will be making PSA posters on how to help around school.

ML students in 3rd and 4th grade did a unit on women to celebrate Women’s History month. They learned about successful BIPOC women, like hairstylist Carolina Contreras, immigrant from the Dominican Republic and Lisa Leslie, a basketball player who made history in the WNBA.

ML 5th grade students are working on a unit on geography and how places where people live impact their lives.

SEL (Social Emotional Learning)

This month we are focused on building academic and social emotional stamina! Just like you build the stamina to run long distances, you also need to build stamina to read, write, listen, and even sit. Everything we do is affected by stamina.

How can you help build a child’s stamina?

1.Set realistic expectations and goals. (set weekly goals)

2.Monitor and celebrate PROGRESS (celebrate growth)

3.Be Consistent with consistent structure, practice and expectations.
