November 3, Volume 3, Issue 10
Dear OPMS Parents, Students, and Staff:
We hope you are had a wonderful weekend. Please take a moment to review the important events and time-sensitive information below.
OPMS PTO Meeting Time Update for November 3, 2025
The next Orchard Park Middle School PTO meeting will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 7:00 PM in the OPMS Library. We encourage all parents and guardians to attend, share ideas, and stay connected to what’s happening at OPMS. Your involvement helps strengthen our school community. We hope to see you there!
National School Psychology Week
This week, we join schools across the country in celebrating National School Psychology Week. This annual event highlights the important work school psychologists do to support students’ learning, behavior, and well-being. The 2025 theme, “Finding Your Path,” focuses on how school psychologists help students, families, and staff set goals, overcome challenges, and grow - both in and out of school.
We are grateful for the dedication of our own school psychologist, Mrs. Weiler, and the many ways she helps our students thrive. Take a moment this week to recognize the impact of school psychologists and learn more about how they support success for all learners.
OPMS Lost and Found
Our OPMS Lost and Found has been set up in the foyer, and it’s already full of clothing, water bottles, and lunch boxes that have been left around the building during the first marking period. All items will be on display in the lobby through Wednesday, November 12, 2025. After that date, any unclaimed belongings will be donated. If your student is missing something, please encourage them to take a look. On a regular basis, Lost and Found items are kept in the lobby next to the front guard desk.

Updates to OPMS Bell Schedule and Late Bus Times
Beginning with the start of the second marking period, Orchard Park Middle School will be making adjustments to our daily schedule to better accommodate transportation needs and ensure student safety.
Homeroom and Class Times: Starting Thursday, November 6, homeroom will be shortened from 10 minutes to 7 minutes. Each class period will gain an additional minute. Our school day will now officially end at 2:35 PM, which is the dismissal time we have been following throughout this year.
These changes are being made in response to the ongoing bus driver shortage and to support smooth, safe dismissal procedures for all students. Thank you for your flexibility and support as we continue to adjust in ways that best serve our students.
Beginning October 29, 2025, the late bus will now depart at 4:00 PM. The late bus runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This adjustment allows us to continue providing a safe way home while ensuring all students have equal access to after-school activities.
As a reminder, our student handbook outlines the following expectations for dismissal and after-school supervision (with times adjusted to reflect our current schedule, including normal dismissal at 2:35 PM):
- All students, including those who walk or bike, should leave the building immediately at dismissal unless they are involved in a supervised after-school activity.
- Students may not leave school at dismissal and then return later to ride the late bus.
- Students staying for sports or activities that begin later than 2:45 must report to the Cafeteria to wait.
- Loitering in or outside the building after school is not permitted. Students should only be in the building after 2:45 if accompanied by a teacher, advisor, coach, or parent.
- The South Davis playground cannot be accessed by OPMS students until after their dismissal at 3:30.
We appreciate your flexibility and apologize for the short notice change. Thank you for your support in helping us reinforce these expectations so that our students remain safe and can fully participate in after-school opportunities.

Attendance Matters
The Orchard Park Central School District is committed to partnering with parents and guardians to support strong student attendance, helping every child reach their full potential each day. We understand that absences can add up, often due to illness or other unexpected circumstances, and our goal is to work together with families to support students’ academic success.
To make the process easier, parents and guardians can now submit attendance notes and pick up information online. Simply log in to the Parent Portal, click on Attendance Notes, and complete and submit the form. Please view the video below for detailed instructions.
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Here are some important reminders for our traffic patterns to help keep all of the OPMS community safe. We understand that the pick-up/drop-off traffic lines can be long, however, the safety of our students and staff is critical.
Drop off: Buses use the front loop on South Lincoln. Parent drop-off is not allowed in the front loop. Parent drop-off is behind the building, please enter the lot from 20A and follow the directions of the staff. Student drop-off is not allowed before 7:45 a.m. This is to prevent a potentially serious safety risk, as students aren’t permitted to go to homeroom before then, and there is limited supervision in the foyer.
Pick up: Parents should use the front loop for student pick up for early releases and normal dismissal at 2:35 p.m. The buses will use the lot behind the school for pick up.
