Welcome back to Term 2 Welcome back to Term 2

The first term of the year has come and gone. We welcomed new students and staff members to the school and hope that they have settled into their new surroundings.

You may have seen on the news about the devastating floods and landslides that were triggered by intense rain over the last weekend of September. Sadly some of our staff were affected but we are happy to say that the KISC community rallied round and gave support and help to those affected, within and outside of the community.

The bad weather also led to the postponing of Activity Week. Classes were due to be travelling to Pokhara, Chitwan and Lamjung, as well as within the Kathmandu Valley, but with travel so badly disrupted and the roads still blocked and dangerous in places, the leadership decided that it was necessary to reschedule Activity Week for later in the year.

The heavy rain also caused landslides perilously close to the back wall of KISC, causing some of the school grounds to be cordoned off for safety reasons.

KISC Swimming Gala KISC Swimming Gala

Despite the sad end to the term, here are some of the highlights:

Following the successful return of the swimming gala last year, this term also saw another big splash at the Satdobato Indoor Pool. The gala featured a variety of races, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, catering to all age groups and skill levels. Dhaulagiri house eventually came out winners of the whole event after a close fight with Annapurna.

Everyone put on their best smile and combed their hair for School Photo Day during the term. Smile for the camera! Do you still have your old school photos? If you’d like to share them, we can make a montage on the website!

KISC Houses KISC Houses

What house were you in? What was its greatest achievement during your time in the school - sporting, art, craft or musical? Were there even houses when you were attending KISC? Houses have changed names and colours over the years but the current ones are Dhaulagiri (charcoal), Annapurna (green) and Makalu (purple). Did you know that the houses take their names from three of the eight 8,000 metre mountains in Nepal? New house captains were chosen at the start of Term 1 and we wish them every success in the events that will take place over the year.

Welcome! Welcome!

Rob Wells recently signed up to be part of the alumni programme. Rob was in Nepal from 1992-98 and attended KISC 1996-98 when it was at the Satobato site. He recalls:

“Gerald Harley was the head and Nirvana and Tupac were big in the playground - music and MTV were big cultural reference points back to the UK and US. Funny memories include the socials - they were the highlight of the social calendar! Touch rugby out in the back fields during the monsoon season, dodging massive puddles and buffaloes. Organised school treks, where we would go off for what felt like months with the bestest of friends. I loved those years - the school was small, 10 or so per class and 5 classes so maybe total students were like 50. You revered the older classes but you knew everyone. Read more...

You can also keep up to date with all things KISC through Facebook, Instagram and Youtube - like and follow and stay in touch.

We would love to hear from you - where are you now, what are you doing, what’s happened since you left KISC? Or do you have any stories or photos from your time at KISC that you would like to share? There are many memorable events during the school year - sporting events, musical events, plays, Activity Week, and electives - we would love to hear your memories!
