April 2025 NRESC Updates from Dr. Vancheri
April Showers Bring May Flowers + Renewal & Growth
April was a busy month at the NRESC! While we continue to grow throughout the commission, we also said the goodbyes which are unfortunately typical at the end of school years. Even when we celebrate new programs and staff, we still have to prepare to say goodbye soon to another great school year, educational programs with a lasting legacy, and staff members who have given their all to the profession.
Onward!
Dr. Nicholas V. Vancheri
NRESC Superintendent of Schools
Goodbye Hope Academy! You Have Done So Much for the Children of Passaic!
After two decades of providing exceptional, alternative education to the students of Passaic City (as well as a sprinkling of students in other school districts), Hope Academy will close it's doors, effective at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
We cannot thank our partner school district enough for entrusting us with the mission of supporting students who could benefit from a smaller academic setting. We wish Passaic nothing but the best as they prepare to bring their students back to their home school district.
To the countless number of students who we have educated throughout the past two decades, we can only Hope that we served you well. To the past and present staff members who have made Hope Academy the great program that it is today: THANK YOU! For the current Hope staff members who will move on to other positions throughout the NRESC, we are confident that you will continue to meet our mission and vision. And to the Hope staff members who we need to say goodbye to: thank you and we know that you will continue to inspire! Hope's graduation ceremony on Monday, June 23 will also serve as a final goodbye to this program which forever changed the way alternative education was provided and viewed.
Even when Hope seems gone, look inside your heart. That's where Hope begins.

Happy Retirement and Thank You to Ellen Monane!
After a 37 year career as a Speech and Language Therapist, Ellen Monane's objective in retirement is to
nurture her mind, body, and spirit. She intends to do some volunteer work and to give herself some
well deserved TLC. As a native New Yorker, and because she lives just over the George Washington Bridge, one of her goals is to take advantage of the art and theatre in the city. She is also planning to travel, to visit old friends, and to make new ones.
In 2018, the NRESC entered into a contract with the Paterson Public Schools to provide speech, OT, and PT services to its students. Ellen was one of the first speech therapists Dr. Vancheri hired in his former role as Director of Education. Ellen, as well as that original group of nearly 10 therapists, will always hold a special place in the Commission (and Paterson's) hearts as this group assisted the school district in eliminating over 20,000 hours of compensatory speech services prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and is still providing exceptional services on a daily basis. Thank you, Ellen!
