October Lifeline: Teamwork
"I am a helpful and contributing group and team member, and feel responsible for helping the team reach its goals."
What is Teamwork?
Teamwork means helping and caring for others so the whole group can succeed—whether that’s your class, your family, a sports team, or your friends. When you show teamwork, you do your part, try your best, and look out for the people around you. Good teammates are reliable, kind, and willing to work together to make things better for everyone.
Family Discussion:
Talk together about ways you can show teamwork in your everyday life.
Questions to Try:
What does being a good teammate look like at school?
How can we show teamwork in our family?
Why do you think teamwork makes things easier or more fun?
Dear Boone Meadow Families -
We’ve had a wonderful week back following Fall Break, and great things are happening here at The Meadow! Our third- and fourth-grade students did an outstanding job on their first round of ILEARN checkpoints—giving their best effort to show what they know. Students and staff are also beginning rehearsals for our Veterans Day program, and classrooms are diving into new and exciting literacy modules.
This season’s learning topics are full of curiosity and wonder!
-
Kindergarten: Once Upon a Farm (life on the farm)
-
1st Grade: Creature Features (unique animal features)
-
2nd Grade: The American West (early American life in the West)
-
3rd Grade: Outer Space (how people learn about space)
-
4th Grade: Extreme Settings (how challenging settings or environments change people)
It’s inspiring to see our students reading, researching, and writing as they explore these fascinating themes.
Beyond literacy and math, our days are filled with learning, community, and growth. Here are a few updates and reminders for families:
Family Conferences – November 5–6: Family Conferences are right around the corner! These important conversations allow us to celebrate your child’s progress and strengthen the home-school partnership. As a reminder, Thursday, November 6 will be an e-Day for all elementary students. Please connect with your child’s teacher if you have questions about your conference time or the e-Day plans.
Veterans Day Program – Monday, November 10 (9:30–10:15 AM): Students are preparing for our annual Veterans Day Program, a meaningful event to honor those who have served our country.
We warmly welcome veteran guests (and their guests), as well as parents/guardians of 4th-grade students. Due to space limitations, we are unable to accommodate extended family or parents of students in other grades. Thank you for understanding as we create a memorable and creative experience for our honored guests.
NOTE: All guests must pre-register by 3:00 PM on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 to ensure a smooth and safe event. (Link for pre-registration is HERE: Veterans Day Pre-Registration Link)
Student Directory (Directory Spot): The BME PTO is offering an opt-in student directory to help families connect! If your child mentions a new friend and you’d like to reach out for a playdate or party invitation, this is a great tool. Please note that ZCS staff cannot share contact information of other students/families, so the PTO directory is your best way to connect family-to-family. Check the information below for details on how to join.
Jog-A-Thon Celebration – October 31: We did it—we met and even surpassed our Jog-A-Thon goal! These funds will directly support our students, classrooms, and school programs. To celebrate, PTO is hosting an Indy 500–themed extended recess with inflatables, Matchbox racetracks, and music. It’s sure to be a fun-filled celebration for all!
Dine for Dollars – Chipotle Night (Tuesday, October 28) 4-8 PM: Join us for our next Dine for Dollars event at Chipotle (North Michigan Rd., north of Target). Show the flyer (or use the code DNFYH6T when ordering), and 25% of sales will come back to BME to support our outdoor learning initiatives!
Once again, thank you for your continued partnership and support. As always, our door is open should you ever need assistance or want to connect about your child’s learning journey.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Tom & Jarrod
Tom Hundley, Principal
Jarrod Gatlin, Assistant Principal
Student Fees - News from the Business Services Office
ZCS will soon issue supplemental fee statements to families. These fees are based on the actual cost of materials used by students and help ensure that high-quality learning materials continue to support instruction across all classrooms.
Families participating in the Free/Reduced Meals program will have these fees automatically waived (except in cases of lost or damaged materials). If your family is facing financial challenges, please consider applying for meal assistance or contact our school counselor or the Business Services Department for support. Families can apply for meal assistance on the ZCS website under the "Departments" tab > Food Services. You can also click HERE: https://www.zcs.k12.in.us/departments/food-services/meal-assistance
Supplemental fee statements will be sent to elementary families the week of 10/27 via ParentSquare from the ZCS Business Office.
For additional details and information, please reference Dr. Coffman's original message sent via ParentSquare on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to provide the best learning experiences for all students.
