Mr. Jackson's Weekly Message
Happy Friday, Coleman Families and Community!
I hope everyone has enjoyed this DLD with your families! While students were home today, our staff got the opportunity to take a bus ride through Duluth, getting to know a few of our studentsโ neighborhoods! So if you happened to see a few buses that didnโt stop around your neighborhood, it was us ๐! It was really fun to learn where many of our students live as we continue to connect with them more! I was also so excited to share all the wonderful Weighted School Assessment (WSA) updates with our teachers today to further demonstrate the great work that they are doing with our Coleman students! A few of the areas in which we surpassed benchmarks are listed below:
Grade 8 Science EOG/EOC (GMAS)
Grades 6-8 Math EOGs/EOC (GMAS)
iReady Math Typical growth (Grades 6-8)
Ready Math Stretch growth (Grades 6-8)
Progress Towards English Proficiency Index (ACCESS) from 73.4% in SY 24-25 to 97.3% in SY 25-26
As a reminder, ELA and Reading Milestones data is still not available, but I have no doubt that we will demonstrate success in these areas as well!
This week we also had a fun few days of Constitution Week facts and a great day in RED, WHITE, and BLUE ๐ demonstrating our patriotism and pride in our U.S. Constitution! Additionally, we celebrated the start of Hispanic Heritage Month with daily bilingual lessons and fun facts about Latin America!
Continue reading to see everything that's coming up next week@Coleman, and have a great weekend!
In partnership for excellence,

Upcoming Research Expeditions
Due Dates week of 9/20 for 7th and 8th grade
At Coleman MS, our field trips are called "Research Expeditions" because these trips are carefully curated and designed to align to the learning standards our students are integrating within their Project Based Learning Unit to help them connect the experience to the overall theme of the PBL. Please support us by making the payment deadlines (click on images below to see due dates for your child's team) as these trips are part of our learning! If you have questions about how to pay for a research expedition, please contact your student's homeroom teacher.
FREE STEM Day event at Kennesaw State Univeristy
American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia will be hosting a FREE STEM Day at Kennesaw State University on Saturday, October 17 from 8:30am-12:30pm. This event is designed for students in grades 2 through 8. For more information and to register click this link.
STEAM Advisory Council Held 1st Meeting of the Year
On Tuesday morning, our STEAM Advisory Council met for the first time this year. We welcomed new members and discussed our PBL problems and STEAM Recertification progress with our stakeholders. We are thankful for the community partners, parents, students, teachers, and administrators who serve on our council and the input they provide.
International Dot Day
Coleman students joined over 34 million children and adults around the globe in over 190 countries to celebrate International Dot Day this week. Studnets listened to a read aloud of the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds and then created their own dot art. International Dot Day is a celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration that inspires individuals to embrace the power of personal creativity to make their mark on the world and move it to a better place. Our teachers joined in the fun and displayed their dor art in the cafeteria this week!
8th Grade Conducted Local Traffic Count
On Tuesday, students in all of our 8th grade Math classes grabbed their clickers and STEAM journals and headed to the edges of our school property to conduct a traffic count. They documented how many vehicles crossed the intersection of Main St. & Brock Rd. and the intersection of Hill St. & Abbots Bridge Rd. For their PBL, they have been learning about the impact new developments have on local traffic and will soon be reviewing actual traffic counts from the roads surrounding the properties that are the focus of their PBL.

Counselors' Corner
College and Career Readiness
Coleman Counselors will begin the delivery of our College and Career Readiness lessons this month! We engage students in this process through a platform called SchooLinks. On SchooLinks, students have the opportunity to take self-assessments and personality inventories, build a profile tailored to their interests and aspirations, and apply this to the research and exploration of a variety of college and career opportunities.
Parents and Guardians! Did you know that you have a SchooLinks login too?
You can use the platform to monitor and support student progress through their college and career readiness journey.
Parents can view the activities their students have completed, like interest inventories, learning units, and their academic plans.
Conduct your own research on colleges and careers to help you have informed conversations with your student.
In high school, students will use their SchooLinks profile to create graduation plans.

Scoliosis Screening
Dear Parents of 6th & 8th grade Students
In the coming weeks, scoliosis screenings will take place at your childโs middle school. The purpose of this screening is to identify students who may have an abnormal curvature of the spine. Scoliosis screening is conducted annually in middle school grades as required by State Law and guidelines from the Georgia Department of Community Health and the Georgia Department of Education.
Parents, please be on the lookout for this form, as your student will also be bringing a copy home. For your convenience, the form is also attached to this notice.
If you do not want your student to participate in the scoliosis screening, please complete the attached opt-out form and return it to Ms. Jimson by 10/6/2026 .
