Valley View Middle School - Principal's Message Valley View Middle School - Principal's Message

Hello Valley View Community!

We just wrapped up our first full week of school, and what a great week it was! Our students came ready to learn and brought so much positive energy to campus. We kicked things off with our first School Spirit Day (House Color/Spirit Wear Competition!) and enjoyed connecting with many of you at Back to School Night. Thank you for helping us start the year on such a high note!

We are always grateful for the many ways our parents and guardians support our school community. Right now, we are especially looking for volunteers to help monitor activities at lunch in the library and assist with lunch supervision. If you are interested in volunteering, please see our district’s volunteer process (click here for link). Our PTSA schedules our library volunteers and you can find more information on this in our PTSA section of the newsletter. For those who would like to volunteer to supervise at lunch, please contact me directly. If you were previously cleared to volunteer in our district, your clearance may still be active (contact Linda Sweeney, our office manager, if you’re unsure). Your time and presence make a big difference for our students!

A few quick reminders:

  • Our campus should be cleared of students by 2:30 pm each day unless they are staying for an after-school activity (such as Homework Club).

  • For the safety of all students, any parent or guardian coming onto campus between 8:00 am – 2:15 pm must first register at the office.

Mark your calendars!

  • Coffee with the Principal – Wednesday, August 20th, from 8:00-9:00 am in the library. I’ll share a bit about my background as a school leader, highlight some of the work we’re focusing on this year, and hear your thoughts and questions.

  • Parent Math Night – Wednesday, August 20th, from 5:30-7:00 pm in the MU (details in this newsletter).

  • School Picture Day – Thursday, August 21st (students will be photographed during their PE period).

I’m excited to connect with you at our upcoming events and to partner together in making this a wonderful year for our students.

Warmly,

Ms. Jamie Keith

Principal, Valley View Middle School

Encourage your student to check out some of our awesome lunchtime clubs this week. It’s a great way to make new friends, explore interests, and get involved! Students can bring their lunch, a friend, and their ideas - everyone is welcome! The following clubs are holding their first meetings of the year this week:

Rainbow Club – Tuesday in Room C8

Help build a more inclusive and tolerant community, connect with LGBTQ+ youth and allies, or just enjoy a safe space to be yourself.

S.A.V.E. Promise Club – Wednesday in Room C8

(Students Against Violence Everywhere) – Be a leader in keeping our school safe, building connections, and making new friends.

Green Team – Thursday in Room C8

Math Counts - Thursday in Room C3

Math Counts is back! If you like being competitive with friends, like math, and just want to have fun, please come to room C3 to find out more about this competition program. Bring your lunch and bring your love of math.

Does your student want to start a club? Please direct them to Ms. Manasewitsch (Ms. Mana) in room S2 for information on creating a campus club.

Join us on Wednesday, August 20, 5:30–7:00 pm in the MU for an overview of our new math curriculum. We’ll walk parents and guardians through how to log in, where to find assignments and practice tools, and simple ways to support learning at home.

This is a parent-only event. To participate, please bring your student’s Chromebook (charged), their school email address, and password so you can access the program alongside our teaching team. We’re excited to partner with you to make math success easier at home!

Our first Association Meeting of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Come meet our school counselors who will be giving a presentation on their services in support of our kids and families, learn about the new middle school sports league, get an update from Vice Principal Buhler, ratify our budget for the year, hopefully fill two open roles, and enjoy refreshments and fellowship! The meeting will be optimized for in-person interaction with a Zoom attendance link to be provided closer to the meeting date.

The two open roles that we need to fill as soon as possible are: 8th-grade Promotion/Party and Financial Secretary - click here if you can help by volunteering for one of these positions!

If you have an interest in any Board position, please reach out! We would love to have you “shadow” us before taking on a role like President, Treasurer, Fundraising, Programs & Hospitality, or Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) next year or beyond.

Volunteering at VVMS

We strongly encourage parents and guardians to get cleared by Mt. Diablo Unified School District to volunteer on campus. There will be calls for help for the Library, Book Fairs, Field Day, lunch period monitors, field trip chaperones, Teacher Appreciation Luncheons, dances, and more - and we hope you’ll want to sign up when you can. Don’t let not being cleared block you from participating - get your paperwork taken care of and come join the volunteers on campus!

Here’s to another great school year!!
