Welcome and Important Updates from Principal Hogan

Welcome Heights Open Doors Families to the 2023-2024 school year. We cannot wait to see our returning and new students. The summer break has been great, and we are ready to reconnect with our students and families.

Something new and exciting is that we now have bus transportation to Heights Campus. Buses will pick up students at their home and drop them at Heights. The addition of transportation did require us to make a big adjustment to our schedule to align with the school districts early release Monday schedule. As a result, Open Doors labs will be scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. There will not be labs on Monday.

For AM labs, a bus will arrive at 8:45 and pick up at 11:30. For PM labs, the bus will arrive at 12:30 and pickup at 3:15. You will find the schedule HERE. Transportation will contact you with your pick-up and drop-off times. If you haven't already, request transportation through this form.

2023-2024 is a great year to parnter with Open Doors @ Heights Campus. We look forward to working with you to support student learning. The first step is to particpate in Open Doors Open House week. Students and families will meet with teachers and prepare for the school year, including picking up their laptop. We look forward to seeing you then.

Regards,

Deanna Hogan

Heights Campus Principal

We have created a calendar with important dates for the year. You will find it HERE. We will keep it updated as the year progresses. The first tab is a year at a glance, containing a list of key dates. New this year, the school board added two additional embedded snow days on March 15 and April 26. These will be non attendance day if we do not need them to make up for snow closures.

New Communications Technology: ParentSquare

We’ve moved to a more robust communications platform called ParentSquare that will give you more freedom to decide if you want your messages as texts, emails, via an app, and more. It will also allow you to easily see district-wide and school calendars of events, respond to messages from us, show which messages you appreciate (so we can tailor information to what you most want to know), and message your students’ teachers and others directly in one convenient place. Some of the capabilities are not yet available but will roll out in the next few weeks. Please be on the lookout for more information on what to expect and how to use this tool.

Attendance Matters

When it comes to learning, every single school day counts. Research shows that attendance plays an important role in academic success, which affects success in life. Simply put, students must attend school in order to benefit from it.

Just two missed days of school every month, for any reason, can cause a child to suffer academically and decrease the chances that he or she will graduate. Absences add up—and subtract from learning.

School attendnace is critical to student academic success. Strong school attendnace is build on at home habits. If your student is ill (Symptoms Flow Chart), do keep them home and then contact the attendance clerk, Jennifer Crooker, at 313-1476
