Term 2 Week 2 - Principal's Report
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you all had a restful break and enjoyed your Easter with family and friends. It’s been a bit of a different start to the term, only having students 3 days before being treated to a long weekend, in recognition of ANZAC Day. It certainly was a different way to start a school term!
So many things happening
Term 1 certainly ended in a very busy manner! The last week saw Parent Teacher interviews on Wednesday 1 April, promptly followed up the next day with the Easter hat parade, before heading into the Easter long weekend. It sure was a busy time. Parent Teacher interviews were extremely well attended and I was very impressed with how everyone adhered to the time schedule. If you were unable to attend, please reach out to your child’s teacher to make a suitable time to meet.
The Easter hat parade was a delightful event, the weather was amazing and the school grounds were a buzz with beaming faces, happy parents and proud grandparents. Thank you to everyone involved for making this event as spectacular as it was!
Last week staff returned on Monday and Tuesday, undertaking valuable Professional Learning, in the areas of disability, neurodiversity and inclusive education. Some key take aways from these days were the importance of respectful relationships, open communication and opportunities for all. These 3 key points are something we pride ourselves on at Woonona. We are so very fortunate at Woonona, to not only have staff who cater for all of our students but to have staff who know and care for not just our students but also their families. Our staff value the positive relationships that we have developed over the years and look forward to continuing the journey with our families for many years to come.
Friday 24 April saw our school leaders run our ceremony to commemorate ANZAC Day, and what a fabulous job they did. They led it in such a mature and respectful manner, sharing with all students the importance of the day.
I had the honour of attending the Dawn Service at Woonona Bulli RSL on Saturday 25 April with a number of our school leaders, and some house captains and vice captains. This was the first time we have attended the service as a school group and I could not have been prouder. I would like to thank the students for joining me and recognising the importance of such an event. It was an early morning start for us all and I would like to extend my thanks to the families who made the effort to get their children there, all looking smart in their school uniforms. What also stood out to me was a large number of our families, including their children, who attended the service. It really highlighted what a wonderful community we have here at Woonona and the values in which we all uphold.
More exciting things coming up
As always, there are many things happening for our students and families.
On Thursday 30 April many of our students will be off to Hollymount Park to participate in the District cross country. I wish them all the very best, knowing that many have been training very hard over the holidays! I would like to extend my thanks to Mr Argaet, who is the convenor of this event, always making things look easy because of the time and effort he puts into the organisation of the day. I would also like to extend my thanks to our P&C, who will be running the canteen on the day.
Wednesday 6 May will be our first P&C Meeting for the term, please come along and join us in the staffroom at 6:30pm and get involved in some of the fun filled events they have planned.
Thursday 7 May will see all of our kindergarten students embark on their very first cross country. Information has been sent out prior, in regard to this event.
Lastly, next Friday 8 May will be or Mother’s Day Stall, so stay tuned for details on this event.
Woonona sure is a busy place and has something happening for everyone!
