Greetings PRM Families,

Spring is here, and we are officially in the final stretch of the school year! As we build on the strong momentum from March, we continue to see our students growing, learning, and preparing to showcase all they have accomplished. Through every challenge and success, our PRM community remains committed to ensuring each child’s academic growth and overall well-being.

πŸ“ Spring Assessment Season is Here

Our Spring Assessment Cycle is now underway and will continue through May 15, 2026.

  • Grades 3–6 are taking the Ohio State Tests (OST) in English Language Arts and Mathematics
  • Grades K–2 will complete the Spring i-Ready Diagnostic and Acadience end-of-year literacy assessments

These assessments give students the opportunity to show what they know and reflect the learning and growth that has taken place all year long. We are proud of how prepared and confident our students are!

πŸ“š Supporting Student Success: Tier I & WIN

At PRM, we support students through:

  • Strong Tier I instruction β€” daily, high-quality classroom learning aligned to standards
  • WIN (What I Need) Block β€” targeted time for intervention or enrichment based on student needs

This ensures every student is supported, challenged, and positioned for success.

πŸ’» Helping Students Do Their Best

While students no longer take devices home, testing is completed on computers during the school day. You can support your child by:

  • Encouraging a good night’s sleep
  • Providing a healthy breakfast
  • Helping to limit evening screen time so students are well-rested and focused
  • Offering encouragement and reassurance

A calm, confident mindset makes a big difference!

⏰ Attendance Matters More Than Ever

Daily attendance and on-time arrival by 7:40am are critical during testing.

Please help by:

  • Ensuring your child is present and on time each day
  • Avoiding appointments or trips during the testing window

If your family needs support, our school social worker Ms. Allie Quinter is available to assist.

πŸ“… Upcoming Event

  • 4th Quarter Conferences: Thursday, April 23, 2026
(More information and sign-ups will be shared soon.)

As we continue through April, we are excited to see our students shine, grow, and finish strong. Thank you for your continued partnership, encouragement, and trust. Together, we are making a difference for every PRM student. PRM, you ROCK!

With gratitude,

Principal Simpson & Interim Assistant Principal Pitts

School Uniform Policy School Uniform Policy

We must be consistent in acknowledging and enforcing our school uniform policy. Our uniform policy is liberal enough to include several options for families. All PRM Spirit Wear is considered part of the school uniform.

While we don't like to take time away from instruction to deal with uniforms. We must all be consistent to ensure this doesn't become a major issue as we close out the school year.

Please see the policy below and in the PRM Student Handbook.

School Team Reports School Team Reports

3-6 News

The 3-6 team is excited to finally welcome spring! Along with the rest of the school, Kindergartners' daily schedule will be adjusted during the testing schedule days in April. We will also complete our Kindergarten spring assessments this month. Please be sure your student is on time and well-rested! Kindergarteners will also visit the Cincinnati Nature Center in April. Look for updates from your student's teacher very soon for the date.

6-9 News

The 6-9 Team hopes this warm weather continues! Students are loving their time outside at recess and during their weekly Outdoor Education lessons. Classrooms are diving into their botany lessons this spring, and exploring the garden to identify leaves, measure trees, and learn about pollination is a beautiful connection.

Classrooms are putting time and energy into preparing for our end-of-the-year assessments. Starting next week, 3rd graders will begin their OST Language and OST Math tests. Students will also start working on their iReady end-of-the-year assessments in reading and math. And finally, we have our Acadience assessment to complete toward the end of April and beginning of May.

Don't worryβ€”it isn't all testing in our environments. Many classrooms will welcome caterpillars for an authentic learning experience of the life cycle. We also have field trips visiting the Green Acres' Art Center! Some classrooms will have the option to participate in the school Science Fair!

As always, we are your partners in education. Please reach out if you have any questions!

9-12 News

The 9-12 floor is gearing up for state testing! We are excited to see all of the progress and growth our students have made! Please make sure that students come to school well-rested and with full bellies. We will have snacks and mints provided. We also know that many students do get a little testing anxiety. If you are concerned about your student's anxiety around testing, please make sure to communicate with your child’s classroom teacher so they can help alleviate any worries.

Hard to believe, but our classroom communities will be enjoying our final weeks with our 6th-grade students. 6th-grade recognition will be on Tuesday, May 26, at 5:00pm. Specific details about the 6th-grade leadership and recognition events will be communicated by classroom teachers, so be on the lookout. We look forward to giving our 6th graders a wonderful sendoff!

This time of year tends to be a difficult time behaviorally for many of our students because summer break feels just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Many of our 6th graders are also experiencing some β€œSenioritisβ€œ. We would be very grateful if you could help us communicate proper behavior and school expectations. We want our last two months of the school year to be enjoyable for everyone, but we still have to follow school rules and procedures.

Thank you for sharing your children with us! We appreciate the partnership!

Art w/ Ms. Kate

Hello Families,

Welcome to the home stretch! You can expect a lot of artwork to arrive home this quarter, so check backpacks frequently.

9-12 students completed their watercolor ecosystems and created diverse landscapes that included producers, consumers, and decomposers. Students are currently working on developing specific skills that can be applied to future projects, such as one-point perspective, value drawings, compositional layouts, and observational drawings. For their final work of the school year, students will choose a skill to focus on and develop a final work emphasizing the techniques that they learned.

6-9 students are developing pinch pot forms using fundamental clay construction techniques, including rolling coils, attaching clay, and adding texture. This work will be painted and left unglazed, so it will be decorative and not safe for food usage. 6-9 students are also looking at artwork that incorporates symmetry and are creating drawings that utilize radial symmetry.

Kindergarteners recently learned about bilateral symmetry by printing butterfly shapes. Students will continue to explore the world of insects by creating an insect and an environment for it to live in using mixed media. To celebrate the warming weather, students will be working on Koi Kites for their next project.

A warm thank you to all of the families that have volunteered in the art room this year. It has made a huge impact on the art program and given me even more reason to admire and appreciate our school community.

Gym w/ Coach Cash

Coming Soon...

Library w/ Mr. David

Kindergarten - Kinders are wrapping up their UFLI lessons and getting ready to learn ALL about the library. They will learn the proper way to take care of books, the responsibility of checking a book out, and begin practicing by checking out board books that will stay in their classroom. We're getting them ready for 1st grade!

6-9 - We are wrapping up our exploration of non-fiction with animal baby names.

9-12 - Students are wrapping up their travel adventure, focusing on world languages. They will learn 7 of the most common phrases used by tourists in 5 languages. They are learning that it shows respect to know some of the language of the country you are visiting.

Tech/STEM w/ Ms. Michaela

Coming Soon...

Music w/ Mrs. Wahl

In music class, students in grades 1-6 are doing Musician of the Day. Students have several options for what they can present.

Students in band or orchestra at PRM will perform in a spring concert on Tuesday, May 19, at 6:30pm. We are excited to see all they have learned this year with Mr. Frank and Ms. Jeong!

Strings w/ Ms. Jeong

Xavier University is hosting a Pre-College Summer Strings Camp, an exciting opportunity for students in grades 4-12 in the greater Cincinnati area. Led by Xavier's orchestra director Professor Lina Jeong, students will work with expert university faculty and professional educators in daily orchestra rehearsals and group classes. The program offers three distinct orchestra levels to ensure that every student is placed in a learning environment that supports their individual growth.

This is a great way for current 3rd graders at PRM who are interested in signing up for strings class next fall to get a head start on learning violin, viola, cello, or bass over the summer!

**Students who are current String Students in Grades 4-6 should consult with Ms. Lina Jeong about which orchestra to enroll in before registering.

Baroque Violin Shop has generously offered to sponsor free instrument use for students who do not currently own/rent their own instrument for the duration of the camp. Instruments are first-come, first-served.

PRM parents and guardians who have questions, please email Ms. Jeong at jeongl@cpsboe.k12.oh.us.

Xavier University Summer Strings Camp:

Camp Dates: June 1-5, 2026 @ 9AM-1:30PM

Cost: $80 per student until April 30, 2026

  • Registration increases to $130 on May 1, 2026

  • Registration closes on Friday, May 15, 2026

Registration Link: https://www.xavier.edu/summer-programs/summer-strings

All strings players and aspiring strings players are welcome-- no audition is required to join!

All students participating in XU Summer Strings from all three orchestras will perform in a public concert on the final day of camp on June 5, 2026, at 12:00PM. Family and friends are invited to attend the concert! Don't miss out on this opportunity, spots are limited!

Outdoor Education w/ Imago

Outdoor Education is back in full swing for PRM students. All grade levels have been learning about all things: plants, seeds, and photosynthesis. Now we are starting in on the Tree Unit, where students are creating their own field guides and learning about tree health. Can't wait to keep making memories in the garden together this spring!

For more information about Imago's programs, visit www.imagoearth.org.

For questions regarding PRM's Outdoor Education program, contact Zoe Vanasse at zvanasse@imagoearth.org.

Gifted & Enrichment with Jackie Bonfield

All April enrichment sessions will be modified due to testing.

We will resume regular pullouts in May.

April 23rd is conference night. I will be available to discuss our Math Acceleration Program to parents who are interested in learning more about the referral process, criteria, and expectations. I will present a short, 15-minute overview at 4:30, 5:30, and 6:30pm, and be available to answer questions before and after each presentation.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Updates from our Parent Leadership Groups Updates from our Parent Leadership Groups

PTO

Please plan to join us at our next PTO Meeting on Wednesday, April 8, at 6:00pm in the library. Being present at PTO is a great way to understand what's happening at PRM over the next two months – it will be a busy but exciting stretch, and it’s a great time to get involved.

Get ready to GLOW again this year at the Family Spring Fling on Friday, April 24, from 6:00-8:00pm. We are asking for donations of snacks, water, and coolers (those will be returned at the close of the event). We are also asking for a minimal number of parent volunteers for 30-minute shifts only at the bathrooms and as playground monitors for student safety. We would love your support! Foundation

The PRM community showed up BIG across our three March fundraisersβ€”all supporting our annual fund, which helps cover 2026–2027 needs like Imago outdoor education programming, PTO social events (like the upcoming Spring Fling), Camp Kern support, and resources and meals for our amazing PRM staff.

Here’s the impact you made:
β€’ Restaurant of the Month (Cafe Alma): $457 raised. Thank you to Cafe Alma for being such a wonderful partnerβ€”again!
β€’ Spring Flower Sale: 524 plants sold, generating $2,860 in profit
β€’ Read-a-thon: $10,433 raised with 260 students participating, reading a total of 90,866 minutesβ€”incredible! Special thanks to The Blenk Team and Hyde Park Pediatric Dentistry for their generous sponsorships.

A huge thank you as well to our parent champions who led these effortsβ€”Laura Morales, Jess Bohart, and Leah Stratton!

In April, the Foundation is focused on raising the final $45,000 needed to reach our $200,000 Phase 1 goal for the Reimagining the Outdoors project. If you haven’t made your gift yet, now is the time! You can find all the details and give online at:
https://prmrocks.org/prmoutdoors/. You’ll also begin hearing from parent leadership groups about volunteer opportunities for the next school year. We’ll be discussing Foundation needs at our upcoming meeting, and we’d love to see some new faces on Wednesday, April 8, at 7:15pm in the PRM library. With several parents transitioning out of PRM, we have several open Board and champion roles and would love to welcome new members.

And finallyβ€”mark your calendars! The annual PR Margs social will take place at Community Happens Here on Friday, May 8, at 6:00pm. Be sure to grab your tickets and join us!

*If you ordered flowers, pickup is on Saturday, April 18, 10:00am-12:00pm at PRM. A small amount of inventory will be available for purchase if you did not get your order in on time.

Also, please note, our wonderful garden teachers from Imago will be working to transplant all the current plants growing in our school garden, so if you have medium/large sized pots or pot liners you no longer need, please donate them by dropping off at plant pickup on April 18 OR drop them off by the school garden fence (behind PRM) anytime.

ILT

ILT meetings take place on most first and third Mondays of each month at 2:45pm at PRM and are open to anyone wishing to attend. Our next meetings are Monday, April 6th and April 20th.

LSDMC

For LSDMC, our next meeting is on April 8th at 3:00pm in the PRM library. As we continue to prepare for next year, we will confirm budgets, check progress on our ONE Plan goals, and learn how to better support our students' success through community partnerships, resources, and public advocacy. All are welcome to attend in person.

Just a reminder that local and state policies that affect our schools don’t happen by accidentβ€”they are shaped by the leaders we elect. Being registered to vote ensures that our public-school families are considered an important part of that conversation. It's vital we make our voices heard this fall, as important elections are coming up. Make sure you’re ready to vote! The deadline to register to vote or update your voter registration for the May 5 primary election is April 6th. https://olvr.ohiosos.gov/

Boosters

Spring sports are officially here. Soccer, Volleyball, Baseball, and Track and Field are all kicking off their spring seasons. It’s a busy time for PRM athletics! Little Road Runners spring soccer for our youngest athletes (preschoolers) will start the weekend of April 18 and continue for 4 consecutive Saturdays.

A BIG shoutout to our Brain Bowl team, who finished their season and competed in the CPS end of season tournament on March 14. Congrats – great job on representing PRM this year!

Mark your calendars now. Fall sports registration will open on Friday, May 15th , at noon and close on Sunday, May 31st , at midnight. Fall sports offerings will include soccer, volleyball, tennis, and Little Roadrunners soccer. You can find information and all registration links at www.prmrocks.org/athletics. Please email any questions to prmathletics@gmail.com.
