News from the Principal

Greetings WE families,

Another successful week of teaching and learning took place. The students are working very hard each day. We had district and school leaders pair together to observe teaching and learning this week and calibrate on best practices to strengthen instruction. The success of the visit is a result of the collective effort by teachers and staff!

Our first School Leadership Team (SLT) meeting was held this week. We would like to know what you are thinking. If you have questions or concerns you would like to discuss further, please feel free to share them with us via the linked form. Our next meeting will be on October 21, 2026.

Let the SLT Know What you Are Thinking!

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning for our September Community Circle. Yes! It is that time again due to Fall Break. Be sure to arrive with your ID ready. Thank you for your patience with the check-out QR code. Even though several folks seemed to have difficulty connecting, it was a success once you got outside. Our records indicate that the system logged you out of Community Circle a bit later in the morning. Ms. Gordon was also able to check out the remaining folks still in the system. So, it is important that you check out. Thank you!

Don't forget to mark your calendars for these upcoming Westchester events:

September 21st-25th: FALL BREAK

September 30th: Westchester Dine-out @ Community Q

Enjoy the Fall Break, and we will see you back on September 28th at 8:00 a.m.

From your very grateful principal,

Christine Knox

Progress Reports and Parent/Teacher Conferences in October.

The end of the first 9-week reporting period is quickly approaching. Your child’s teacher will be posting grades, and you will be able to view their progress for the grading period on October 15, 2026. We will share more information about how to view the progress report closer to that time.

Fall Conferences have been pushed back to later in the month of October. This is a time for your child’s teacher to meet to discuss your child's progress. This year, we will provide scheduled opportunities between October 19th and 30th. All teachers will have time to schedule conferences on Wednesday, October 28, during Early Release. A sign-up will be sent by your child’s teacher after October 1.

Let's Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month Together!

Dear familias!

¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana! Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

Si! We have already started our annual celebration from September 15 to October 15.

Some of you made a nice contribution to this celebration last year. We want to extend this invitation to all the families at Westchester. We would like you to share ideas and ways to observe Hispanic culture and celebrate the many contributions of so many Latinos in our society. Here are some examples: You and your child could read a short book or share something from this culture in your child’s class, such as a souvenir, a piece of music, a dance, a folkloric dress, a game, or a Hispanic celebration your family participates in. If cooking is your specialty, you could cook a dish and share the final product with some comments and a picture of a recipe. Or, you may have a completely different idea for celebrating Hispanic culture. This could be shared with students during regular instruction time.

This year’s spotlight will shine on Perú, but all Hispanic countries are welcome as well!

Check the calendar for Hispanic events this Fall break!

With appreciation,
